Whole System Transformation (WST)
The unsustainability of the world means that change must happen and that it cannot be piecemeal and superficial. The future can no longer be a simple continuation of the past; it will have to be fundamentally different ~ Ervin Laszlo
Business Strategy and Organization Transformation are two sides of a coin. The organization can reach its destination faster when business strategy is coupled with organizational transformation. The most organization operates in the reactive mode under the plea of “change management” – to address the opportunities and problems involved in improving human dynamics in an organization. It is a planned change effort to achieve success in various functions of the organization as and when needed. Incremental changes around the edges of the organization are the slowest method to scale up exponentially and profitability. The need of the hour is organization transformation.
Modern organizations need far-reaching changes in their strategy, business design, leadership, operations, structure, processes, systems, culture, and orientation to the internal and external environment to create sustainable competitive advantage. This calls for large-scale paradigm-shifting for organizing and performing work. The demands on today’s organizations for constant change are so great that new responses are required by simultaneously and proactively improving organizational effectiveness, efficiency, competitiveness, and individual well-being. The proactive and simultaneous method of change – addressing the “whole” of the organization is known as “Whole System Transformation”.?The WST is also about engaging the “WHOLE” of the organization which consists of soft and hard parts. Wholeness means, healing, healthy, and unhurt. The Whole is more than all of something, it is a healthy, balance, unity, and completeness.
WST, therefore, is a methodology engaging all facets of an organization to accomplish faster, cheaper, and more sustainable positive change. Transforming a system into a unified whole is the process of shifting from one configuration or expression into another. All parts of the system are modified. For true transformation to take place, the organization must function as a whole. If it hasn't achieved wholeness first, it will separate into disconnected pieces and will be unable to realize its true potential in separation. Thus, what is meant by the term - whole system transformation is more than simply a change that affects the entire system rather the entire system is involved in creating a new one. This exciting focus then moves away from imposing change management on an organization. It is almost like touching and changing the “DNA” of the organization. It is also about taking a quantum leap and changing the orbit of the organization. 70% of change efforts FAIL, whereas, 90% of?Whole System Transformation?SUCCEED.

Let us take an example to understand the coupling of scaling-up strategy with whole system transformation. The OLBE Model (opportunity, leadership, business design, execution) would enable the organization to scale up from 10X to 100X for exponential profitable growth when coupled with whole system transformation initiatives such as digital branding & marketing, innovative in and outbound logistics, extreme efficiencies, adoption of the innovative process, unique organizational structure to support exponential growth, developing un-matched leadership with un-copy-able teams, complex capabilities of people, unique organization culture to execute the business strategy, digital transformation of systems and processes, operations excellence, high-performance work systems, employee value proposition, Great Place To Work and so on.
The ‘sustainable’ whole system transformation means assisting people in the development of a replicable and evolving enterprise-wide capability to transform the way they do things again and again in a chaotic, ever-changing world.
