Who is Your Hero?

When Splish Naturals decided to make ‘Heal Your Hero’ the theme of its newly launched Reg CF equity crowdfunding campaign, it raised a series of questions which I am still working to answer:
·?????? Who is a Hero?
·?????? Who is Your Hero?
·?????? Selecting a Hero?
·?????? Recognizing a Hero?
·?????? Helping a Hero? (which is one of the objectives of the campaign) of Splish Naturals.
?This is the second in the series of articles to answer these questions (the first was published on LinkedIn here: ARTICLE)
?As I see it, there are three kinds of heroes:
·?????? Comic book, fantasy, and mythical heroes
·?????? Classical heroes (armed services, police and first responders)
·?????? Everyday heroes
?Heroes commonly act for the benefit of others, placing their interests ahead of others and their community ahead of their own. This includes people who take on physical, financial, and reputational risks to help others.
?In talking with people about the ‘Heal Your Hero’ program, I have learned that all too often a person’s ‘hero’ is a comic book character. This may be all well and good even though these are not real people, but fictional persons. Great for entertainment, but not really someone you can look up to?
?I have found that a common test for being a hero is that their actions are inspirational. Their ‘heroic’ actions cause us to look at ourselves and consider the possibility of being better people. People look up to their heroes as a source of inspiration. Although inspiration may be taken from a comic book character, it seems that the hero having superpowers gives us an excuse. We can state that we would have acted heroically if only we could see through a wall, fall 20 floors without breaking a bone or spin up a tornado by snapping our fingers.
?
Splish Naturals decided that being a hero should not require extraordinary powers or actions but should set the bar at a level anyone may reach. So, it decided to let investors make their own choice on who is their hero. However, since the goal of the ‘Heal Your Hero’ program is intended to help real people, that pretty much counts out anyone not breathing.

?The people identified as heroes may be your heroes.
When I am asked, “Who is your hero?”, I don’t have a particular person in mind. I tend to consider most entrepreneurs as heroes. In their work to bring a new product or service to market to make the world a better place, they typically experience hardships. I think their willingness to face these challenges is heroic.
?Using the definition of an entrepreneur as a hero, I could easily pick Oprah, Richard Branson, or Elon Musk as my heroes. They each have great accomplishments. However, I am looking for something more like a stretch goal than a marketing phenomenon.
?Let me be clear, an entrepreneur as a hero does not fall in the same class as members of our armed forces and first responders who regularly risk life and injury to protect us. Recently, with the COVID pandemic, we saw many healthcare providers match this level of risk.
?So, who is your hero?
