Who Are You?

Hi! My name is Parissa. This is "Modern Badass: A Field Guide", where Modern Badasses can feel seen, understood and valued. And, it's also a place for others to crack the code on the Modern Badasses in their lives (and maybe learn some badassery themselves). Want this in your inbox 2x/month? Hit the “subscribe” button above!
Who are you? I mean, who are you inside? Who is the person behind the name, job title, accolades, stuff, etc? Who are you underneath that which you project to others?
The degree to which you get acquainted with who you are is 100% correlated to the degree to which you accomplish what you want and feel accomplished at the same time. And yes, for clarity, accomplishments are different from feeling accomplished.
"If you're wishy-washy, it's over."
That's what I heard from the trainer at the gym yesterday. It was about committing to the workout and it also applies here, too. Are you clear:
One of the things I notice in my Modern Badass clients is a sort of low-grade fever of discontentment that's becoming harder for them to ignore. They've been kicking that can for a long time and it doesn't go as far as it used to.
It's difficult for them to find the discontentment source because it happened so long ago that they can't articulate what started it. And they get frustrated because they keep actively doing stuff (and calling it FOMO) in hopes that will take care of it.
[Narrator: Nope, distracting themselves doesn't take care of it.]
Just be.
Yup, that's the remedy. Boy, do I know how hard it is for a high performer to just "be" instead of "do". It's hard for me, too.
Just be. It might feel like impossible, but it's necessary for your happiness to just be.
Why? Misalignments happen when you fall into the "must do all the things" trap. No, you don't have to do all the things. You don't even have to do half of the things.

The compulsion to do everything comes from within not from without. The compulsion to do everything is driven by ego, scarcity or sometimes both.
A shift towards being clear on who you are, what your values are and where your commitments lie means that what you do is not based on "have to" so much as "want to" for you as you work with your clients, lead your teams, plan for the future, etc. The way you get to a "want to" world is to sit still, press pause and just be.
When you sit still, press pause and just be, you give yourself the space to ask:
Every time I take a Modern Badass client through a similar exercise, amazing shifts occur. They see that while they are incredibly loyal as a value, they are not always incredibly loyal to who they are, what's important to them and what their values are.
A (re)commitment to who they are changes the game personally and professionally for them.
Are you a Modern Badass?
You might be curious if you (or someone you lead) are a Badass. After you take the quiz, you'll get instant insights that you can apply immediately. Find out the Modern Badass traits you possess and crack the code to highlight your brilliance!
