Who are you?
UPCOMING EVENT?-?Join me on December 7 at 10am PST / 1pm EST for a conversation with ???? Jordana Zeldin , co-founder of ?? The Practice Lab , and Emily McLellan , VP of Partner Growth and Customer Success at Bongo , about how a sales culture that is focused on practicing these human elements will translate to winning behaviors and better success in sales.
Who are you?
“I know who I am when I see what I do.”
So, when you examine what you do, who are you?
As a seller, that's your sales identity.
Everyone has a unique identity as a seller.
Whether you know it or not.
Whether you want it or not.
Your sales identity is how your buyers experience the value of working with you.
If you asked your buyers they could tell you what your sales identity is.
“I know who I am when I see what I do.”
That's a challenge put to all of us by Herminia Ibarra, an author and professor at London Business School.
It's the challenge to examine who we are as human sellers and how we're perceived and received by buyers.
The question is: are you looking?
Are you paying attention to how you are perceived by others?
Are you tracking the choices you make about how you interact with buyers and whether it has value for them?
"We learn who we are in practice, not in theory."
That's how David Epstein put it in his great book,?Range, Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World:
We discover who we are through constant experimentation. And gathering feedback.
So, what's your sales identity today?
And what do you want it to be tomorrow?
Regardless of what one's LinkedIn profile looks like, a real sales identity is built one human interaction at a time.
