How Do Bard AI and ChatGPT Compare?

While we will be contrasting these AI chatbots with predetermined prompts, we will first point out their main distinctions. Use the table below to move along if you'd prefer to.

What Are OpenAI ChatGPT and Google Bard AI?

Take some time to become familiar with both chatbots before looking at usage examples or differences, if you're not already aware of the AI war that is now being fought.

By utilizing their language models, San Francisco-based OpenAI created ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot. Due to its wide range of capabilities, ChatGPT quickly gained popularity after its introduction. Because its GPT-3 model was so powerful, the bot could do a wide range of things, such as writing complex code, outlining articles and stories, giving life advice, simulating hypothetical situations, and much more. The bot gained even more power following the introduction of the new GPT-4 LLM, and it is still quite well-liked today.

Google Bard is an experimental conversational AI service that has long been seen as ChatGPT's competition. A scaled-down version of the company's LaMDA language model, which was released a few years ago, serves as the foundation for Bard AI. Google trained Bard using its own data set, which has a few benefits that we'll go over in more detail below. The company promises that Bard AI will come up with unique, high-quality answers that use some of ChatGPT's features. Yet whereas Google Bard is still constrained, ChatGPT is accessible to everyone.

ChatGPT vs. Google Bard: Significant Differences

Now that you have a basic understanding of the two chatbots, let's start discussing their major differences. Many people are considering the argument between ChatGTP and Google Bard. Although each chatbot has unique skills, there are some significant contrasts between the two. They are in order of importance:

1. Coding Expertise

Having ChatGPT code for you has been one of the most popular uses of ChatGPT. The AI chatbot is an expert at creating sophisticated code in a number of different languages. People have used ChatGPT to create games and even complete chatbots, as anyone who has spent enough time on Twitter will attest. The AI chatbot can easily fix many different kinds of code, as well as make it.

On the other hand, Google Bard is not yet officially able to code. Google stated on its FAQ website that Bard cannot assist with coding at this time since it has not yet provided support for coding responses. Yet when we attempted to get Bard to code, it produced HTML and Javascript code. We also submitted the same to ChatGPT, though, and it discovered a few mistakes in Bard's code. After it rectified them organically, the code was then ready for usage. Yet, it is clear that ChatGPT has the advantage in terms of coding.

2. Many Responses

Unless specifically instructed otherwise, ChatGPT always responds with a single output when you ask it a question. The bot may render a variety of versions and can climb as high as the user desires. This standard reaction to questions, nonetheless, could annoy some people.

The Google Bard AI returns various iterations of the same solutions or answers. The AI chatbot refers to them as "drafts" and gives users the option to select any of them so they may determine which response best suits their needs. Each draft may have a different source for accuracy depending on how it was written. Users are free to choose any one response or even combine several for the best result. One of the greatest distinctions between ChatGPT and Bard AI is this. This provision is a welcome one since a single response isn't always the most precise or appropriate.

3. Conversational Memory

These days, a wide range of AI chatbots can retain conversations. For those who are unaware, this effectively means that the chatbot will use your past input as a starting point for future responses. In other words, if you previously asked a bot for a recipe, it may respond to subsequent requests without losing context. There is a level of dialogue retention in ChatGPT. The model of the AI bot can retain up to 3,000 words from the present exchange. To formulate responses, it is unable to access previous conversations. Yet, it does an excellent job of maintaining the flow.

At the moment, Google Bard struggles to maintain context. After being given a request for knock-knock jokes, Google Bard AI responded with a completely different response. Google says that Bard AI's ability to remember context has been limited on purpose for the time being. The bot's contextual awareness should grow as it continues to learn. But, ChatGPT prevails over Bard if you're seeking a cut-and-dry decision on this.

4. Access to the Web

The absence of Internet access has always been one of ChatGPT's main flaws. The AI chatbot uses a dataset with no knowledge of global events that occurred after September 2021, even with its most recent GPT-4 model. Comparatively to bots that can access the Internet like Microsoft Bing AI, this makes the bot more likely to make factual mistakes.

Thankfully, Google Bard has a real time connection to the Internet. Just like Bing, Bard AI can do Internet searches and intelligently come up with all the answers to your questions. This gives it a huge amount of power when it comes to getting up-to-date information without making big mistakes. Similar to Bing, Bard AI also provides consumers with a list of URL sources at the bottom (not often, though). Therefore, Google Bard AI will be the bot with the most recent responses in the Bard vs. ChatGPT debate.

5. Language Assistance

The most recent GPT-4 language model by ChatGPT now supports even more languages. The most recent LLM offers support for almost 26 different languages. French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Italian, and a host of other languages are among them. As a result, ChatGPT is a very intelligent bot that speaks pretty effectively in a variety of languages.

Currently, Google Bard only supports American English. Bard's AI bot thinks it can communicate in other languages today, despite Google's claims that it is working on making it possible. When asked how many languages it can speak, it gave the same response as below. Google Bard, on the other hand, couldn't write a poem in French, which basically proved the company's point. When and which languages are added first will only become clear with time.

6. Delusion

Since the Internet is so common, one would think that Google Bard AI could quickly make answers and not make any mistakes. Our earlier test on conversation retention, however, blatantly contradicted this. However, Bard AI is highly prone to having delusions and producing incorrect information. Even though it's not deliberate, the AI can confidently spread false information since it thinks it's true. For example, when asked about the most recent earthquake in Delhi in 2023, Bard AI brought up a recent event. In truth, an earthquake had happened just a few hours prior, and there were internet news reports about it.

Delusions are also common with ChatGPT. The bot's most recent GPT-4 model, on the other hand, says that compared to GPT-3, it has cut delusions by 35%. Many users have tested this version, and we agree that ChatGPT has gotten better and the number of false positives (delusions) has gone down. Yet it's still not entirely there.

It could be a little early to assume that Bard AI will prevent delusions, though. Since this is the company's initial version, before it is enhanced, it will go through its own stages of mistakes and delusions. So, as things stand, ChatGPT probably has the most accurate model.

7. Giving Sources Credit

AI chatbots typically output their data from datasets, and this is true of all of them. They get a lot of practice messages, chats, photos, and other things to help them learn. As a result, ChatGPT and Bard both have unique datasets from which they get the responses. Google Bard and Bing, two AI bots, have access to the Internet as well. The bots can rephrase information and give it to consumers thanks to a combination of these elements.

Even though Google Bard AI has real-time access to the Internet, it sometimes gives the wrong credit to sources or even lies about its own data. We probed about what Haki is in One Piece during our tests. As predicted, Google Bard AI produced three different manuscripts. Nevertheless, in a particular draft, Bard had not only copied text verbatim from a website but also neglected to cite the source. Here, look at this:

Bing AI, on the other hand, analyzes content after it has been studied online and then rephrases it. Additionally, it has the decency to cite its sources and provide links to any pieces it may have drawn inspiration from in the footnotes. This is a crucial missing component that Google Bard could fill right away. Source links were sometimes visible, but they were very rare. It was disappointing to see Bard copying things in this way.

Last but not least, despite the fact that ChatGPT is unable to access the Internet, it successfully rephrases information even though it does not share sources. Also, we did not discover any overlap between our articles and those in ChatGPT. In this case, MS Bing AI triumphs when it comes to providing accurate sources.

Google Bard vs. ChatGPT: As it stands, the latter Wins

Even though Google has some good things to offer, like access to the Internet, it is clear that ChatGPT now has the upper hand. But we can expect this to change as the Silicon Valley giant adds more features and tweaks its model using data. We can experiment with ChatGPT's full power while we wait. ChatGPT is available on Siri and the Apple Watch. There are also a lot of ChatGPT substitutes available that are suitable. So who wins this fight, the AI chatbot?
