It still shocks me to this day, how many are willing to throw away their careers for the benefit of one. Kirstjen Nielsen, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pompeo, have all thrown away their careers to save a man who has lived for no one other than himself, and perhaps, his family: even this comes into question, with the exception of, perhaps, his daughter, Ivanka, who happens to be, aside from Trump himself, the money maker in the family. So even when it comes to love and family, Trump's god is first and foremost, money, via himself and his daughter.
We now know that the McDougal non-disclosure "agreement" may have been an illegal contract, hence, non-enforceable. But this arrangement, which is beginning to look like an attempt to defraud the United States, specifically, the voters, and therefore, would not be enforceable, is only the cream on top. It's beginning to appear that a good percentage of us (perhaps not most, but still, too many) are okay with the president's welcoming one who routinely kills those who oppose him, saying, "It's better to get along." I would have said that in trying to do so, we would have succeeded in abandoning our principles, had there been principles to begin with. And part of the problem is that many are attempting to read into the arrangement something that was not there to begin with.
Why is it that so many have always been open to adhering to or subjecting themselves to the will of one? The problem is this: Many who have been labeled as "leaders" are nothing more than scribes, not only with respect to what is written or said, but with respect to their actions. Pompeo is attempting to justify the president's meeting with a murderer. Nikki Haley said nothing when she had the opportunity. Kirstjen Nielsen has sold her soul. They have all abdicated their moral authority. No reactions or interventions have resulted, except acquiescence.
The real test, as Emerson once wrote, is "the right point of view of history." Many have failed this test, including the many republicans who have failed to speak out. As I write this, many have been killed, slowly, poisoned, and the many of us who take for granted what we have, fail to speak up. If you are a "Christian," and you fail to speak up, then you are turning a blind eye to the many murders that Putin has committed. We cannot continue to wave the banner, "Christian," unless we side with the people who have suffered:
Magnitsky's death has been described as follows:
"After Magnitsky filed a criminal complaint accusing Russian officials of fraud, he was arrrested and charged with tax evasion. While in custody, he grew painfully ill, suffering from gallstones and pancreatitis. He made repeated requests for medical assistance that were denied. Hunched over in agonizing pain, he documented his mistreatment in 450 handwritten complaints. After his death, an independent investigation found his body badly bruised, the result of multiple beatings by prison guards" (Isikoff & Corn, 2018).
And as we accept, under the pretext of getting along, in order to appease the self-interest of one, this one, so shall we become.
Take care.
