Who watches the watchers?

Recently, I applied for a Director of Talent role. I reached out to the recruiter responsible for the position but did not get a response. I followed up with a direct email, hoping to catch their attention. Again, silence. It wasn’t until I engaged the CEO in a conversation, who subsequently referred me, that the recruiter finally reached out. The subsequent phone screen was eye-opening. Despite the recruiter reopening the email multiple times after the CEO’s referral, they openly denied knowledge of it. Awkward…

How does this play out if I get this job?

I Got myself in a weird situation where two recruiters got my info, replied to the same application separately, and then both scheduled an interview with me, on the day of the first interview they noticed the mishap because I let them know. Now they want to replace it with AI and other programs, not sure if we will be receiving replies if not going first to the CEO, then applying to the company,

Indeed, all too common in my experience as well... Playing favorites? Favoring friends? Ageism?? Take your pick... When I started in the recruiting business a few decades ago, working for Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, Steve Blank, EtAl, it was all about sourcing / recruiting / placing the best possible Talent -- NOT about finding gigs for your friends, nor playing gatekeeper, nor standing in the way of hiring a great company and industry changing person... Thoughts? Comments?
