To the Tune of YouTube: Creating Cash Flow

Last month, IGTV was introduced to Instagram. IGTV is a video service on Instagram that lets users share videos for up to an hour. Yet on Monday, announcements were made that for their popularity, YouTube Creators have been paid bonuses between five and six figures. Comedian Lilly Singh, whose channel has nearly 14 million subscribers and over 2 billion views, is one of many creators to receive this bonuses.

And as reported for Business Insider, these payments can be as high as seven figures. As a return for these bonuses, creators agree to only share content on their YouTube channels, or on YouTube and IGTV, if they were already using Instagram. In response, a representative for YouTube shared these deals between YouTube and its creators were important investments in their success. And speaking as a graduate of Berklee College of Music, I can agree to this.

During my last semester at Berklee, in partnership with YouTube and Live Nation Video Network, — the largest online music network on YouTube — as a leader for a pilot program, I recruited recording artists, to give them the opportunity to monetize their sound recordings in YouTube videos. And as taught by the leaders of Live Nation Video Network, I learned about the Content Identification and Content Management System of YouTube, and how its algorithms and data analytics were used to calculate the royalties and advertising revenue earned for each YouTube Creator, all between six and seven figures. In other words, not only is YouTube a highly profitable online video platform, but profitable enough for its creators to become millionaires!

Will you profit to the tune of YouTube?
