Who is Up To Par? (Note to Associates)

The other day I read a very interesting article about millennials and job satisfaction. Additionally, it discussed how each generation thinks the other generation is only out for themselves. Pretty interesting on perspectives and biases. The one common theme that did bind the generations together was PURPOSE.

Last month, we contracted the business growth expert Jim Jubelirer to help Up To Par with its ambitious growth goals and help refine our execution strategy, and establish key metrics along with business practices to reach our goals. We refined our purpose to be deeper in meaning, more human, more driven from the heart, and simpler. The best part of Up To Par is seeing the associates grow within our company and with that our purpose was defined. 

Our purpose is to
Positively Impact Others.

Very simple and clear. Think about every interaction that you make in the day, with your fellow associate, customer, brother, sister, son, daughter, mother, and father. You have a choice to make you can either positively impact them or not. Simple. So simple to say, and difficult to do - hence why it is ideal to try to accomplish.

Who is an other? Is it your fellow associate, a guest, internal customer, a vendor? What is positively impact mean to you? If your entire department team positively impacted each other, how much better would be your work environment? How much better would the guest service be in your department? Would your guests and members be Raving Fans of your services? 

The other day I was talking to a fellow associate about a challenge within a department. It was the first that I heard of the challenge, and he said: “What is Up To Par going to do about it?” My response was not what he thought it was going to be...I asked him, who is Up To Par? He looked at me like I had three heads. I rephrased the question and asked him Since you are Up To Par what are you going to do about it? The combination of the article and conversation really got me thinking... Do our associates know that THEY are UP TO PAR? A Company made up of associates, and people all joined with a common purpose of “Positively Impacting Others” and we do this using the platform of professional hospitality management for hotels, clubs, and restaurants?

So...Who is UP TO PAR. YOU ARE! YOU ARE!

  • When you serve a guest, you are Up To Par
  • When you mow a green or fairway, You are Up To Par
  • When you WOW a colleague You Are Up To Par
  • When you complain about a colleague - Who are you complaining about... YOU are Complaining about YOU Since you are Up To Par.
  • When you deliver exceptional experiences and live our service promise - You Are Up To PAR.
  • When you come through and execute - who are you, You Are Up To Par

Up To Par is not some fictitious never never land... it is all of us. While we all work at different properties we do have one thing that binds us together, just like all the generations... A Common Purpose to Positively Impact Others.

There is always a choice...Think about the purpose and YOU (UP TO PAR) can impact others.
