Who takes the blame for AI content?
AI generated content is here and it's here to stay, but what are the implications of creating content for highly regulated industries like finance and insurance?
Like everyone else on LinkedIn right now, I'm talking about ChatGPT and how it has shocked us all into the reality that we are not that far off from AI being responsible for creating the majority of content online.
Because the big question you need to answer before you upload a piece of AI generated content is: Who is actually responsible for the content?
If you had to appear in front of ASIC or a royal commission, and they asked you who was responsible for the content that was published on your website, would it be acceptable to say it was ChatGPT?
I'm fairly certain that a person is going to be held responsible but the big question is who? Is it the content manager, the junior journalist that you asked to action the request or was it the CMO who decided that that AI generated content was approved to be published?
I'm not sure if there are any legal precedents that have been set regarding this issue and if there are I'd love to know the outcome.
Because just like when social media exploded onto the scene and people didn't treat their own words as something they could be held to account for, are we doing the same thing with AI content?
Either way, I know that AI content or assisted generated content is not going away but it will bring about a whole set of new questions that we need to answer.
That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be using these new tools to help speed up the content creation process but that doesn’t mean that we can ignore the risk involved or get too comfortable with how easy it is.
Because all it will take is one big example of things going wrong and we will look back at all the content published on your website and ask the question “Am I responsible for this?”

1 年Lot's of big implications for educators too. It's important to add to this debate across as many dimensions as we can. What you've said here is an important part of that discussion. We really can't move quickly enough on this issue!

1 年Great comments Matt . Traditionally the issuer of the material ( not creator ) will be liable . No different to material you publish now. Your employed writers aren't liable ,their employer / client is who publishes material.
I can't believe you used ChatGPT to write this article.
