Who Sold The Most Tomatoes?

Who Sold The Most Tomatoes?

There once were three farmers who each wanted to start a business selling tomatoes! Since they were friends, they decided to challenge each other as to who would sell the most tomatoes.

The first farmer, Jane, was new to business concepts but very enthusiastic. She researched the best types of tomatoes. She researched the type of soil, found the perfect plot of land; and researched the best tools to use. She decided to build a website and social media pages. She went to the store and bought the right hose to water her plants and the right hoe to weed. Because she was so busy with these activities, it wasn’t until later in the season that she finally got her tomatoes planted!

The second farmer, Rachel, had a business previously. She knew that the success of her tomato business depended on getting the plants in the ground early in the season so they could ripen and be sold. So she quickly found a plot of land and planted her tomatoes with some basic tools and knowledge. While her tomatoes were growing, she hired a summer student to build a website and her social media pages. Rachel spent all her time during the summer watering, weeding and fertilizing her tomatoes. They were so much further ahead than Jane’s that she felt confident that she would sell more tomatoes.

The third farmer, Debbie, took a completely different approach. Much like Rachel, she quickly got her tomatoes planted; and hired a summer student to build her website and social media; but she also trained and hired another summer student to water, weed and fertilize her tomatoes. Debbie spent her summer telling everyone she knew that she would have awesome tomatoes and that they should sign up for a newsletter which would announce when the tomatoes were ready. Some people were so eager to purchase Debbie’s tomatoes that they pre-purchased tomatoes. Debbie also put up road signs announcing that she would be selling her tomatoes. When her tomatoes were ready to sell, Debbie sent out an email to her list encouraging people to get their tomatoes NOW. She also made some small changes to her road signs announcing that the tomatoes were ready for sale. Debbie consistently sold out of tomatoes.

Can you guess who sold the most tomatoes?

Both Jane and Rachel were astonished. While their tomatoes were far superior in looks and taste to Debbie’s, it was Debbie who outsold the other two farmers.

The moral of the story…….

It’s not the business with the best program, product or service that wins but the business with the best marketing!

It doesn’t matter if you have the best-tasting tomatoes, or the biggest ones, or the healthiest ones – if no one buys the tomatoes, then you don’t have a business and all of your efforts have been wasted!

As a new business owner, Jane spent the majority of her time preparing to be a business. Rachel spent the majority of her time working in her business (watering and weeding). But Debbie spent the majority of her time getting customers for her tomatoes (marketing).

That’s why in this week’s episode of Work Less PROFIT More business podcast, I’m going to break down entrepreneurial activities into different categories so that depending on your stage of business growth, you’ll know EXACTLY WHICH activities are important to focus on so you can grow your business.

This is the 2nd week of my free training – The Ultimate Focus & Freedom Masterclass – Episode 156 (here) will help you FOCUS on just the right activities so you grow your tomatoes AND get people to buy them.

YOU CAN DO THIS!

Diana

P.S. I hear from clients all the time that they feel like a juggler with too many balls in the air and that they don’t know what activities to do first.?

If you feel like an overworked juggler, then it might be because you are spending the majority of your time working on the wrong types of activities.

There are 2 reasons that this continues to happen:

  1. You can’t see how to get all of the work done without compromising your business.
  2. You haven’t created a system so you can FOCUS on the exact revenue-generating activities that will move the needle in your business.

If you’re ready to go from Overwhelmed Chief Everything Officer (the juggler) to Overjoyed CEO, then it’s time to schedule a Business Breakthrough Session with Diana.

During this call, Diana will ask you a few key questions to pinpoint the gaps in your business – and then we show you how to fix them so that you free up more of your time while still earning a great profit. Schedule your call today!

I love your story telling Diana. This story is another great example of 'it doesn't matter how great your product is, if people don't know about you, they aren't going to buy from you' story.
