Who is responsible for your business success?
If you're a sole trader or run a small business in the trade industry, we'll show you how you can take full responsibility for your business success.

Who is responsible for your business success?

There's one person responsible for the success of the business you lead - and that's you. As a leader in business or the owner of a business, you are ultimately responsible for its success or failure. This means that you are accountable for making critical decisions, and we accept ultimate responsibility for the success or otherwise of our ventures. By taking responsibility for the success of your business, you can make strategic decisions that drive growth and profitability and create a positive and sustainable future for your company.

?

We cannot blame others for something we have ultimate control off. Doing this and passing responsibility ultimately undermines your accountability and responsibility as a leader who is passing the blame. This can lead to a lack of trust and respect among employees and other stakeholders and erode the business's credibility and reputation.

?

?

"The rate of the pack is always defined by the pace of the leader."

?

What am I saying or not saying? What am I doing or not doing?

?

There are two ways to see this - some business leaders might feel anxious and unsure about having this level of business responsibility on their shoulders….and other business leaders will thrive on it and enjoy it. But whatever way you think of it, taking responsibility for your choices and the outcomes they lead to will make us better business leaders.

?

"You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today" - Abraham Lincoln.

Business owner success?

To become a successful business owner and leader, there are a few key things we must do…..and some critical things to avoid. One is taking responsibility and accepting ownership of your intentions, actions, decisions, and reactions, both good and bad. It is also taking the consequences for the mistakes and failures you might make along the way and learning from them.?

?

Here are some examples of taking ownership or responsibility within your business:

  • Do what you said you would - keep your promises to yourself and others.
  • Effective self-management - using the time you have available to do the high payoff actions/activities (HPA's) that drive the most value to you, your business and your team, HPA's that will help you achieve the maximum results possible
  • Honesty - be honest with yourself and others. People who know where they stand with you will trust you.
  • Continual self-development - how can we grow our businesses if we're not growing and learning to be better leaders and people?

?

And here are a couple of essential things to avoid…

?

  • Blaming others is a non-starter if you want to be an accountable business leader. By blaming others, we give our power away. And it's nothing more than a way of distracting ourselves from the work we need to do - looking inside ourselves to figure out what went wrong and what can be learned for the future.
  • ?A true leader focuses on looking for solutions rather than apportioning blame; the blame doesn't help us move forward.
  • Gossip - avoid getting caught up in talking negatively about others, whether clients, suppliers, partners or anyone you work with. This is a drain on your time and energy, can damage future relationships and potentially lead to a loss of trust from those around you.?

?

?"Blaming others is nothing more than excusing yourself" – Robin Sharma.

Being a successful business owner

Every business leader follows their path, and while no manual guarantees success, there are some key indicators that some of the world's most successful leaders have in spades.?One of these is ownership and ultimate responsibility.?

?

How would you rate yourself on this?

?

When you have a problem with a supplier, do you lash out and blame them? Or do you look at how you can change your actions to achieve a better outcome next time?

?

When you have an unhappy team member, do you feel responsible and address the part you may have played in that? Or do you pretend it's their issue and leave them to deal with it?

?

When you set a goal, do you do what you say you will do to achieve it? Or do you let it slip for a few months, or maybe even longer?

?

Being a great leader and business owner who takes ultimate responsibility isn't something we are born with…. it's something we learn. I learned a few years ago how to take ownership, responsibility and accountability in my business and life…..and I haven't looked back.?

?

"You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of" --Jim Rohn.
