Who IS This Person Who Stares Back At Us In the Mirror and Calls us By Name?

When we got up this morning, at some time during that period, we looked in the mirror. But, did it dawn on us that the person who stared back in the face was not the same person as the one who we looked at yesterday? The season changed while we were sleeping and we may not even be aware of it. If only the transformation could be this drastic! Maybe, then, we would take notice and pay attention to the obvious changes.

Do we really know who or what we are looking at? Do we care? Does it matter to us that we will spend every waking and sleeping hour with this person, whoever it is, sharing our deepest most profound thoughts, ideas and convictions? Instead of merely glancing at the reflection we have grown so accustomed. Why not take time to observe the subtle differences in the facial expressions revealing inner motivations of latent content. The subtext is always revealed through the mouth and eyes!

More importantly, get to really know this person who has consumed our minds? This mysterious fathomless person demonstrates enormous fortitude, determination, strength of will and irresolute character. An infectious humor buried just below the surface, waiting to be examined for discernment in the reality of our most passionate dreams mockingly glares.

What is important to us today will be important to us always. The problem is we don't KNOW what is really important to us. WHY? Because, we won't stay still long enough to study the most important subject in the world: Us. If we are too busy to care; we are way too busy. Nothing is more important than getting to know the real us.

Maybe, we've never considered how very important we are and how necessary it is to observe ourselves. Sure, we know what our favorite color is, food to eat, car to drive, clothes to wear, the people we THINK we like to be around but other than those superficial niceties, that's about it.

Stop. this minute. Look directly in the mirror and ask that other human being staring back at you: "Who are you? What are you doing deep down inside of me? Do I give you enough expression? Do I ignore, blame or criticize you too much? Do I diminish your most vital needs, sensual inclinations and artistic pleasures? What do you want; I mean, really want?"
