Who are the people who support you?

The libertarian thinker and prolific author, Thomas Sowell, is the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution. For decades now he has offered well considered, insightful views on topics across economics, history, social policy, ethnicity, and the history of ideas. One of my favourite quotes of his:

Look around. Are the people around you telling you the truth, no matter how uncomfortable or confronting it may be? Or are they telling you what you want to hear? Are they helping themselves or are they helping you?
