Who Needs Holy Water?

Management is tightening their belts. Their sacrifice is declaring the work is done and sending people home regardless of unfinished business. They can create deadlines. There is no magic wand to make the work process itself.

Occasionally the system does not start up. We have to wait for it. It could take five minutes. The longer it takes, the faster they will push out the work. One second of idleness is a crime to management.

They want to get us out of the building as fast as possible. This is the disconnect. They want to cut our day short regardless of the work that remains. I want to cultivate a job well done and assist others in completing their projects.

I hope with my dying breath that I am helping someone. And many before that eventuality. Today the system did not go online for almost an hour. I could feel management's skin burning.

How did I go from a vampire to a vampire hunter? Just call me Blade. Losing a good job made me feel like a vampire. I walked in the land of the living as a shadow of my former self. People stared at me like I was a ghost instead of talking to me.

I also didn't show up on film. No wonder I am not on Instagram. Working a little longer last Monday upset management. Someone has to finish the projects they neglect until the end.

If they want us to finish efficiently- what you do in the beginning and the middle impacts the end. Management never learns this and they become impatient like vampires at sunrise. I have not seen their skin burn. It feels that way.

They live in fear of being reprimanded by their supervisors. That rolls downhill. The only bonus I receive is hourly wage so their foolishness- they acted the same when I made eleven dollars per hour.

Never forget they got off light in the current contract. Starting salary is twenty-one dollars per hour. The union wanted twenty-five or more. The company can afford it.

It was obvious today would be a mess. I was moved to different details as needed. How you like me now? They resent that I show up every day. Pardon me for knowing what I am doing.

This is my life. Management treats everyone like a number. A liability. I have to remain true to myself. In that time before the work started there were many opportunities to talk with various colleagues. Let them know about the job.

Not under the umbrella of "This place sucks." It doesn't suck more than any other job. If you want something that truly sucks- look for a job. I make a difference filling a void management doesn't care about. They are too busy working for a bonus they do not deserve.

Sometimes they say the work has to be done in five minutes. That reminds me of a television show I once watched. It is called Fantasy Island. Projects are finished one at a time. Circumstances can cause things to change.

One of the tenets of the job is "Make adjustments for changing conditions." Pity management never heeds the advice they made us learn. You cannot wish upon a star to finish the work. It is done with consistent work. It might take less time. Might take a little more. That's what life is and their fear of being asked "Why didn't you finish when the schedule said you should be done?" has not led anyone to improve the process.

We do what we do and if it eats into their bonus- so it goes. They only reprimand the hard workers. The ones who live on their phones and enter work smelling like marijuana are not scrutinized like the ones who cultivate the pride of a job well done. It is not going to cause me to change course. This is my real life and there is work to do.

They treat this like the military. If we were in a foxhole, management would prefer if there were casualties. That is not how I do business. Leave no man behind.
