Who is in the Mirror

Who is in the Mirror

Many years ago, I started noticing my conversations with myself and realized the tone was very negative and was driving my behavior and outlook towards life. ?Self-conversations are like talking to the person in the mirror, next time you notice yourself absorbed in deep conversation with yourself, ask these questions –

1)????? Who is this person in the mirror?

2)????? What kind of conversation is that person having with you?

3)????? Is this conversation with person in mirror, driving your behavior with others around you

Back then this person in mirror used to constantly tell me that I am a victim, world is unfair to me and such constant repetition made me believe the same.? Result was looking at everything with suspicion and negativity. ?I started spending more time with self and conversations were about how bad my life is.?? ?My therapist told me that I am in love with my problems and I need to break this romance :). ??

Few years of coaching & therapy helped me become more observant and I could focus on above three questions.? I made a promise to myself that I won’t have negative conversations with anyone, specifically with the person in the mirror.?? Constant focus on looking at life from a simple lens of positive and solution-based outlook helped me a lot. Fortunately my family & friends helped me on this journey and liked the new & improved person. ?I genuinely believe that there are only two types of problems a) one that you can solve b) others, that are reality of life and you need to accept.?

Recently while talking at an event in Singapore, I noticed quite many people who identified with this person in mirror analogy and it made them introspect. In my coaching journey of last few years, I have noticed many people who are influenced by this person in mirror and that is driving their behavior with the world resulting in a notion of being neglected and taken for granted which over a period of time turns to anxiety, panic attacks and depression.? Take help before it is late, practice mindfulness and be conscious of your conversations with the person in the mirror.? ?Mental health issues are real, they have deep impact and need as much or more attention than physical well-being.? Let the conversations continue.? You can make the person in mirror guide you towards positivity.

It's great to see conversations around mental health gaining momentum. Raising awareness and addressing stigma is so important. How do you think we can further support mental health initiatives in our communities?

Uday Burra, thank you for sharing your journey. I love your analogy of the "person in the mirror" and your reflective questions. Taking time to ask ourselves questions, seeking the help of others, and intentionally deciding to build a positive mindset are great ways to build solid foundations for our lives.

Thanks for sharing this Uday Burra. Most people live in denial when it comes to prioritizing their mental health. Hope you continue to show them the mirror!
