As a kid, Glen compelled me to like him, and made me remember him by infusing me with a craving for pie.
""Low Profit Glen" sold brand new Chevrolets at just $399 over factory invoice...
and he also gave a free apple pie to anyone that came in for a test drive.
I'd be watching TV and see Glen smiling at the camera holding an apple pie "come on down to Glen Grant Chevrolet, and get a free apple pie from Best Pies, the home of the best pies"
I told mom about the free pie but she said it was too far to drive for one apple pie.
Disappointment clouded my pie dreams.
Glen knew how to get attention. He was always making unique offers and acting like a ham. He'd dress up like a cowboy or ride in on a donkey, stuff like that.
He also knew how to get leads. Offer them an apple pie.
When I grew up me and my girlfriend took a motorcycle ride to see Glen and take him up on his new offer - 5 free silver dollars for anyone that would take a test drive in a brand new car.
We tried out a new Silverado and got on Glen's hit list.
The Chevy team was diligent, calling monthly to see if we were ready to make a deal, until one day we were.
It took us 5 months to be ready, and Winter was on it's way...
It was October 8th, the day before Beth's birthday. In November the snow would start falling.
Winter was coming way too quickly, and it already felt like Summer had ended long ago.
A brand new truck with a strong heater was just what she wanted.
The feeling of driving a vehicle that is safe, dependable, comfortable.
Glen had pre-approved me to buy on credit and then offered me a great deal.
We rode out to sign the papers, bought a new truck, put our motor on the back and drove to Ivar's for dinner and celebration.
