By now everyone has seen the Tribune employee video introducing "tronc." Many people thought it was satire or a joke. It was not. Anna Vasquez lets loose with a buzz word salad of trendy tech words. Malcolm Casselle enthusiastically hops in his seat while bobbing his head. For those who missed the video here it is.
Anne Vasquez is very talented and experienced. She had some good lines. Here's one of her better ones, i.e. "We're a content company first, last and always."
Seems I can't embed Vines here. Here is the direct link.
Relative unknown Malcolm Casselle had a good line as well. This is actually the company slogan, i.e. "from pixels to Pulitzers."
The Tribune has indeed won many Pulitzer prizes for investigative reporting. That said one has to wonder why no one at the Tribune bothered to fact check Malcolm Casselle's resume or even his real name? How did the Tribune hire someone who claimed to have founded and funded large companies where he didn't even work? Why is someone who's main business was selling herbal erectile dysfunction pills on TV the CTO of a media company? How did the Tribune not see Malcolm CasSelle's public bankruptcy lawsuit online?
In the bankruptcy lawsuit the Judge doesn't believe Casselle's ridiculous stories. In this lawsuit it was found out that Casselle did not found and run Globalcast. He didn't even work there. Casselle was merely an "assistant" for another person at another company who worked for Globalcast doing paperwork. It was also found out that Casselle tried to take money from Globalcast to pay his own bills. Casselle also appeared to have forged a money order from a bank that didn't exist. How did the Tribune not see this when a real estate appraiser in Los Angeles, California found it easily with the help of a friend?
The Tribune has excellent content and history. They could do very well with the right people at the helm. Anne Vasquez is great. They really need to do a better job researching prospective employees in the future.
