Have you ever wondered who is looking at your post and how far did it spread. do you analyse the data.
Whilst the information is limited there is a lot that can be gleaned from the information provided by LinkedIn.
A recent post on a meeting I attended has received almost 330 views. This over a 3 day period which includes a weekend.
The post was about a meeting looking at a development strategy for the region I live and work in. My comment was in relation to the pleasure in working with business leaders in the region and included a poor photograph of the group... Why is it if you take the photograph you are not in it!
The Original Post
The data
This may just be a cursory indication that you are getting a message out to your followers. Looking at the details we see that it has gone across the UK and even some of my contacts in Finland have seen the post.
There is also an indication of interest from the education sector and there are a number of Executives that are interested in the information in the post. What is Nigel up to now?
In another post recently I put an image of myself with a of me delivering a lecture and mentioning that I am looking forward to speaking to students and inspiring them.
This has received over 1400 views and a number of comments. Those who have viewed the content of this post include ones who have made comments and engaged with the image and commentary.
Again we see many of my university contacts from three universities have shown interest in this, as it includes presenting to students... something I have been doing for over 17 years.
There are further pieces of information buried in the data that can provide knowledge that can be used to direct you in the development of posts and communications.
Summary
The overriding observation from these and many other posts that I look at is the need for original content. The vast majority of posts I see are just reposts of others content and likes of others content. Whilst this is interesting for your connections they always like to see original content about your business activities.
Starting the conversation also gets more viewers to your posts and views of your profile. so to start this conversation off do you look at your posts data or am I just a little too focused?
Have I missed anything from the data? Answers in the comments please.

6 年Really interesting thanks Nigel. Having read your post I looked at the data for my last post and found that despite one person in Canada 'liking' my article, this did not show as a location for those who viewed it. Can you throw any light on why this would be?
