Your Time IS Your Life

Your Time IS Your Life

How you spend your time today is how you spend your life.

That tends to be pretty sobering for most people if they stop and fully absorb that thought. When we are asked to reflect on it, most of us can come up with a vision for our ideal life: what kind of work we do, how much money we make, the state of our physical and mental fitness, what kind of relationship we have with our significant other, what hobbies we enjoy, and different ways we would spend our time. The life that most of us are living is not our ideal life.

If we layer the concept of happiness into the vision for our ideal life, we would agree that our ideal life would make us the happiest. That is essentially the definition of happiness: living your life exactly as you want. What you want is essentially defined by what matters the most to you. When we do precisely what we want – what means the most to us at that moment – we tend to be happiest. And when we aren’t doing what we want, we tend not to be happy and look forward to when we can. Until then, we go through the motions of living or working, passively waiting for the future. If we don’t genuinely love our jobs, that’s a lot of life spent waiting for the future.

Most of us live by default, not by our own design. We are on autopilot, going through the motions, taking what comes our way, sticking with our comfortable ruts, but not feeling in control, fulfilled, or happy. There may even be gloomy feelings knowing that we aren’t really doing anything to significantly change our future course. Next week, next month, and next year will just be more of the same. Amazingly, most of us seldom question why we live this way. We might even push back on the notion that this is exactly how we choose to live. How we live is precisely what we have chosen and continue to choose every day we continue living as we do. This notion makes many people uncomfortable because it implies responsibility – that you are responsible for the life you have created.

The good news is that you are responsible for how you are living your life. And you can change your life to be exactly as you want it to be: your ideal life. The only thing standing between the life you are currently living and your ideal are the beliefs inside your head – beliefs about yourself, beliefs about how the world works, and beliefs about what is possible. Your beliefs define your reality. Change your beliefs, change your reality. It is not quick or easy, but it is 100% doable. You just have to believe you can – that it is possible. Then, learn how and start the most rewarding work of your life by creating the life you truly want. It will take time to progress and achieve results. You will be happy as soon as you start and every day along the way, knowing that you have finally taken full responsibility for creating your ideal life and will ultimately be successful.
