Who Knows?

You may have heard that "it's who you know that counts." I think what really matters is?who knows you!

What do they know about you??What do?you WANT them to know?about you? What is your reputation? Do you have a personal brand,?i.e.,?what are you known?for?

How many people know what you do, why you do it, and how well you do it? Is your brand visible and memorable by the right people?

How do people feel about you? Do they like you? Trust you? Remember you? This Newsletter article is the first of a mini-series about?becoming known, liked, trusted, and remembered on purpose, aka Public Relations (PR).

Get Free Publicity on LinkedIn!?Your Profile is like a billboard or a brochure. Its effectiveness depends as much on?who reads it?as on what it says about you. My friend and mentor, Jill Lublin , taught me that people tend to like and trust someone they remember that they "have seen somewhere before." This is the reason politicians like to have their names on street corners.

To my surprise, I was told recently by a highly authoritative source that LinkedIn no longer?indexes keywords in your About section for searches. For the search engine, LinkedIn now indexes mainly your Job Title and sometimes?keywords?in your Headline (only). Of course, the LinkedIn search engine does index keywords in your post content. If you are found by keyword searches, you will show up in a list along with your competitors.?

The more effective way to get visibility on LinkedIn is to comment on other people's posts. When you do that, your name (a clickable hyperlink to your Profile) and your Headline will show up above your Comment. Thus, your name and Headline may be seen by the readers, as well as the Author, of the Post. Therefore, if you comment on the post of an author who has a large following, many people will see your name and Headline, which should tell them what you want to be known for.?

This works best if you comment on posts relevant to your target audience, especially posts by "influencers" in your target market. If your comment is relevant and meaningful, it will help you become known, liked, and?trusted. The more often people see your name and Headline, the more you will be remembered. In my expert opinion, this is the best form of FREE advertising on the internet.

If you invite people to connect?after?they have seen your comments, whether on their post or on a post by an author they follow, they are more likely to accept your invitation. Due to your intelligent and relevant comments, they will be amenable to your request. You will have begun to turn a "cold market" into?a "warm market."?

After you become connected with?other?LinkedIn members, they will be more?likely to see your own posts and activity on their Home NewsFeed or under their Notifications tab. So publicity leads to more publicity. A beneficial circle! Eventually, you will become known, liked, trusted, and remembered for what you want to be known for.

Loved the part where you said if you find someone you don't know who has liked or commented engage with them and send them a connection request because something resonated in them to take that action.

I agree with you Buddy Hodges, Connector...for sure. It is about who knows you. It's definitely great to know the right people yourself. That will help. But who knows you is even better because that is how you will build more clientele.
