Who knew?
Simeon de la Torre
SIM7 creative agency owner. We use language to empower design. Sector strengths: higher and business education, property, food & beverage and more.
In the month that BT rebranded as EE (who knew?), Unilever 'toned down' it's social purpose, and we had toooo many discussions about the Netflix Beckham/Robbie docs, we pieced this together, the latest SKIM7.
Boil the kettle and grab a Garibaldi. Here's this month's selection of standout work from the creative industry.
1) A campaign that's caught our attention
The British Stammering Association has launched a campaign to show people who don't stammer how frustrating it can be when they interrupt people who do. Featuring striking colours, frank language and bold typography, VMLY&R's creative makes for a refreshingly assertive take on a sensitive issue.
2) Three minute briefing: business school brand positioning
For business schools to get noticed, they need to express their personality. And to do that, they need to position their brands. This is how.
3) The messaging makes it: winning words in action
Good writing stimulates the senses. It makes you see, feel, taste, smell, and, in the case of Specsavers's new campaign to promote their hearing services, puts sounds in your ears. And as the canny copywriter here proves, sometimes all that takes is a 'puh' and a 'pok'. Lost? It will all make sense then you read this.
4) Language Lab
The shapes and colours of your brand can catch the eye, but it's the language you use that will capture the heart of your audience. Creating or updating your brand? It's time to invest in Tone of Voice. More here.
5) Doin' it well: design we love
OBVIOUSLY we're big fans of clever typography here at SIM7, but this inspired logo for David Fincher's latest flick is next level. Such a neat, simple - dare we say it? - deadly trick.
6) The here and now: what we're working on
Flying to Germany to deliver a Tone of Voice workshop for a business school client and developing a life long learning brand for another in Spain has given the past month a distinctly continental flavour. Closer to home, we've been preparing strategic messaging for the launch of a new national housing association for the property sector. Blast-off is edging closer. Watch this space.
Ooh, and the leadership podcast we created is flying high in the charts. You really should check it out.
PLUS: we're hiring a midweight designer. Know anyone? Send them here.
7) "I really messed up the labels"
To make a successful business out of selling coconut water, make sure it tastes good, avoid wasting money on unnecessary exhibitions and check your labels before printing 250,000 of them. Dragon's Den contestant Jacob Thundil puts these lessons down to experience.
Oh, and....
Seriously, have you SEEN the inside of The Sphere?
