Who Inspired Me to Write Master Your Career?
Have you ever stopped to think about who truly drives your career decisions? It's one question I’ve grappled with myself, and it’s at the heart of why I wrote Master Your Career.
I’ve often noticed how people (myself included) explain career moves with phrases like, “I was headhunted,” or “An opportunity came up.” This, combined with the most Googled career question—“What career is right for me?”—showed me that many professionals are letting external factors dictate their career paths. That inspired me to write a book that challenges this approach and provides a roadmap to taking ownership of your career journey.
In Master Your Career, I build on ideas I introduced in my first book, Passions to Careers. There, I encouraged readers to align their work with their passions. This new book dives deeper into what it really means to own your career. It’s about shifting the focus inward—understanding who you are, what you bring to the table, and aligning that with opportunities in the world. The career agenda should always start with you, not the employer.
A Theatre Analogy for Career Mastery
I’ve used a theatre analogy to make these ideas practical and relatable. Think of your career as a story unfolding on a stage, divided into 12 episodes. Each episode presents its own challenges, requiring reflection, decision-making, and action.
As the protagonist of your story, your success depends on the role you choose to play. In the book, I introduce 16 career archetypes that represent common roles people adopt in their career journeys. Some of these archetypes will come to life on stage at the book launch—it’ll be an experience you won’t want to miss.

Let’s Redefine Career Ownership
My goal with Master Your Career is to inspire you to flip the script: instead of asking, “What does my employer want?” ask, “What do I want, and how do I make it happen?” By understanding your strengths, values, and aspirations, you can take control of your career and build a path that’s fulfilling and sustainable.
I’m excited to celebrate this journey with you at the launch. Let’s explore what it truly means to master your career. Will I see you there? Let me know in the comments!
