Who I'm Following Online: Space Edition
Let’s talk about space. It’s a core part of Hypergiant’s business, you know that. It’s also growing increasingly more important in the public dialogue i.e. you should pay attention to space because what’s going on in space is about becoming more important on Earth. It’s not just cool NASA experiments and idealistic tech entrepreneurs trying to get to Mars: it's a big business opportunity, but one fraught with geopolitics, infrastructure safety, cyberwar and then some cool science experiments. That’s why I think it’s more important now than ever to find voices in the space community that you can listen to and trust. I have a few favorites and thought it was worth sharing them with you:
- The Space Gal is a modern-day Bill Nye. Emily hosts two shows, Xploration Outer Space on Fox and Emily’s Wonder Lab on Netflix, and I appreciate her hot takes on trending space topics.
- Speaking of Bill Nye, my list wouldn’t be complete without him. As Hypergiant’s Top Advisor, he’s someone I respect immensely and is tapped into space through his work with the Planetary Society.
- Sarafina Nance is an astrophysicist who is leading the way for women in STEM. Her love for space is contagious and she does a great job giving an inside look at what it takes to work in her field.
- John Kraus takes breathtaking spaceflight photos. Can we discuss this image from April of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket launching the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite for NASA?
- You all know I’m a massive fan of Supercluster, but I think their best kept secret is their Chief of Content, Robin Seemangal. Capturing space content from the front lines and reporting on it, in as real time as possible, is no small task and he does it flawlessly.
- Dr. Tanya of Mars was on mission operations for the Curiosity Rover, and is now the Manager of Science Programs at Planet Labs. Much like Sarafina, her love for all things rocks and robots is wildly evident. Also, allow me to plug her recent published work on the untold stories of how landing on the moon inspired the world: For All Mankind.
- Incredible achievements aside, Christina Koch’s constant updates via Instagram from space made it easy to feel like you were in space with the crew.
- And last but not least, this list wouldn’t be complete without including the Planetary Society. As an Advisory Council Member, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride and pure joy when scrolling through their channels knowing they’re leading the movement to empower everyday citizens to advance space science and exploration.
While this list is preliminary, I’d love to expand who I’m following. Who are you following and why? Tell me in the comments below!
I don't know if you follow Brian Weeden but I find he posts a lot of good stuff. Give him a follow on LinkedIn if you aren't already connected. Cheers
