Who Helps the Helpers?

I love this famous Mr. Rogers quote, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers.  You will always find people who are helping.’”

While we all have been going through this pandemic with varying degrees of stress, there are several of our neighbors who are carrying extra special burdens.  Whether we call them essential workers or “Priority 1” employees, there is a reason why they are considered to be the helpers.  These health-related, military, educational, food supply, faith leaders, transportation, public safety professionals continue to carry ‘heavy suitcases’ of responsibility for all of us.

But who cares for them and helps them to deal with the stressors of life?  Therapy centers like ours (and great colleagues in other groups around the country) are welcoming these helpers to come in to talk about how they are coping with the messes that this pandemic has created.

So, if you have been wondering who you can turn to for help, Minnesota Renewal Center encourages you to have a conversation with someone who can help make sense of all you’ve been going through.  The stigma of asking for help is gone…
