We all know that English computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented WEB in 1989 and it was opened to public in 1991.
But when we check the sci fi literature we'll see the first usage of web (in today's sense) in Philip K. Dick's short story 'The Souvenir' (1954) This is the first time I've seen the word "web" used as the name for a communications network. Also we can see another term 'Trace Web' in this story. Trace web is a small handheld device that contacts the big data network. (Just like a phone today). You can read the 'Souvenir' in Collected Stories of PKD -Second Book.
I would like to mention another great sci fi classic, John Brunner's Shockwave Runner... Here we can see 'Data-Net' term which mentions the idea of a nationwide data network. The novel was published in 1975, at that time, it was the touch tone phones era. Another interesting term from the book is the 'tapeworm' Just like today's tech terminology, Brunner uses tapeworm as a trojan rather than a virus. Since the Turkish translation of this book is not so good, I would suggest to check the original version.
