Find out how to keep up momentum after Covid – most businesses are already doing it
In 2020, the power of positive psychology is widely accepted. But when I started out in the field nearly 25 years ago, it was a different story altogether.
No-one knew much about applied emotional intelligence. There was no evidence to show how great an effect positivity has on corporate performance. Talk of positive thinking in relation to business was met with skepticism and ridicule.
It was years before the business world cottoned onto the importance of positivity, during which a few early adopters enjoyed huge competitive advantage.
Thankfully in 2020, most managers take it as read that treating people well and considering their wellbeing are essential factors in making a business a success.
It sounds almost ludicrous to even imagine that there was a time when that wasn’t so.
And never before has the power of positivity been so important as it has been through the Coronavirus pandemic.
No longer do those early adopters have a competitive edge, since most businesses now give positive psychology the airtime it warrants. Indeed, it is a must-have for every business. Not merely because of the plethora of benefits for members of staff and sales numbers. But also because not to put positivity into practice in the work setting would inherently mean risking falling behind the competition.
Which category do you fall into?
I hope that you have already bought into the power or positive thinking and are exploiting its enormous potential in your business.
But if you aren’t quite there yet, you should assume that you are in the minority, and let that propel you to explore this subject more so you can give your business the edge too.
What is positive psychology?
Grounded on neuroscience, positive psychology gives you opportunity to rethink your definition of happiness and retrain your brain to do what it takes to build a successful business.
Studies show that positive people are 31% more productive and three times more creative than their negative counterparts.
The more positively we think, the greater our abilities are. And you’ll find that the steps you take to recreate yourself as a leader who your staff want to follow will rub off on your teams too.
A new perspective
The better you become at putting daily tasks into perspective, the easier it will be to get them done. When you shift your way of thinking so that work feels more like your calling than your job, you will heighten your productivity levels.
It works no matter how big or small the task, and no matter how appealing or unappealing. By focusing on the benefits of completing the task and reaffirming that you are doing it for the greater good, the better you will feel and the better the task will be done.
In my new book, Positive Leadership, Positive Change, I offer many exercises to try and examples to follow to reframe your way of thinking and home in on success. If you want to give your business the edge? This book is for you.

4 年Great blog, couldn't agree more. Something that has been seen as 'airy fairy' and a bit 'hippy' has really come through into the mainstream. I am GLAD! It has taken my mindset and allowed me to explore and learn more about it, as we speak more freely about it. Positivity is also infectious, and it spreads around is, which is magical
