Who is EdgIO & why should you care
Over the last 20 years I've been an active witness of the evolution of Content Delivery Networks (CDN) and we have now entered into another key chapter of this evolution.
Here is how:
The first 10 years (2000 - 2010) of CDN were focused on User eXperience (UX) by offering Websites better performance, availability & scale so that their users have the best online experience possible. This was mostly achieved using static caching technology to distribute copies of static assets (images, CSS, JS) across the world as close as possible to the end users.
The second decade (2010 - 2020) saw Web Security move to the cloud and become a natural extension to CDN services. Now almost every CDN offers DDoS Mitigation, Web Application Firewall (WAF) as well as Bot Mitigation & API protection. This is about protecting your web assets (websites, APPs & API) as well as your users data. Let's call this the Security eXperience (SX).
The next decade is all about the Developer eXperience (DX) providing web development platforms for building fast and dynamic websites, e-commerce stores and web applications that have performance (UX) and Security (SX) as integrated features so that development team can ship in confidence knowing that there is no trade off between performance, security & developer velocity.
Developer Velocity is the speed at which your development team ships new features and capabilities. It is usually constraint by the amount of time allocated to Non-functional requirements such as stability, security, reliability, availability, scalability.
McKinsey did a study in 2020 that shows companies in the top quartile of the Developer Velocity Index (DVI) outperform others in the market by four to five times.
At Edgio we put together the best of UX, SX & DX by merging 3 companies: EdgeCast Networks, Limelight Networks & Layer0. The results is what we call AppOps.
App Edge
This is no ordinary legacy CDN service for static assets caching.
Here is why:
App Edge makes Dynamic Data (Page URLs) cacheable & predictively prefetch them to the browser cache.
The result is sub-second websites that load instantly to generate double/triple digits improvement in Conversion Rates & Revenues

One of the of key elements of such positive outcome is the ability to pass Google Core Web Vitals.
Since May 2020, Google announced its new Core Web Vitals,?a set of user-focused metrics designed to measure a page's “health” in terms of providing a smooth and seamless user experience.?
The impact on ecommerce metrics cannot be ignored as illustrated by how Rakuten 24's investment in Core Web Vitals increased revenue per visitor by 53.37% and conversion rate by 33.13%
As critical as Core Web Vitals are, a large number of online retailers are struggling to pass.
If you ignore these scores, you're effectively leaving money on the table — and your competitors are all too happy to scoop it up.
This is why full observability including Google Core Web Vitals Real User Measurement (RUM) is native to the EdgIO AppOps platform.
Predictive Prefetching & observability are some of the unique & innovative features & capabilities you can leverage with the AppOps platform.
There are a lot more and the outcome for online retailers are remarkable.
In Part 2 I will cover App Security or what I called the Security eXperience (SX).
Cloud security & Compliance, performance optimization, DevOps & cloud management, FinOps, and cloud observability.
2 年Very well explained.
