Who is driving the boat?
The key to effective leadership lies in owning our role as leaders. Leadership is not an innate ability, and it is far easier to take a passive approach or follow the path of least resistance. Naturally, we all have opinions, but when it comes to leading a team, it is crucial to focus on three things: keeping everyone safe, creating momentum, and reaching our destination. It is easy to get caught up in the drama and start pointing fingers at team members, but before doing so, we must ask ourselves who is driving this project or initiative. In other words, "WHO IS DRIVING THE BOAT." If it's us, then it's our responsibility to prioritize the success of the team. This means giving out assignments, clarifying any confusion, taking charge of meetings by preparing thoroughly and building a thriving culture.
So, here's food for thought today: In what areas of my leadership have I forgotten that I’m driving the boat?
