Who do you want to be when you grow up?
If you’re not sure, that’s ok.?No matter what age you are.?I know I still ask myself this question regularly.
?
I want to know the mark I will make on the world around me.?I want my life to have made an impact.
?
When we start considering our identity, we usually start with the roles we play or have played.?My list looks like this…
?
??Daughter
??Sister
??Friend
??Student
??Employee
??Colleague
??Supervisor
??Wife
??Mother
??Business Owner
??Professor
??…
?
Those are pieces of my identity, but I’m not sure they answer the question of who I want to be.?That question has to be less about titles and more about descriptive statements.
?
??I want to be the type of person who feels….
??I want to be the type of person who thinks…
??I want to be the type of person who does…
??I’m the type of person who appreciates…
??I’m the type of person who is recognized for…
?
When we do an exercise like this, we need to be more reflective, pulling on our values to start drawing the picture of who we want to be.
?
Once we can draw this picture, we can start evaluating if we need to create change to get there.
?
?Who are you today?
?Who do you want to be when you “grow up?”
?What will it take for you to become that person?
?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on my imperfect leader reflection, particularly any insights you have for yourself.

1 年It can be hard to answer this when we feel that we are on a predetermined path - conditioned by family experiences and expectations. Just taking time to pause and reflect on these questions might not bring immediate answers, but insights will come over time when we are open to see them.
