Who decided on how to show a map ?
Having just read the Bexhill Property Blog by Patrick Stappleton (an excellent read) when I saw this photo of this sign and I was reminded of several other signs that I have seen recently and wondered - who decided on how to show a map (or is it me be cantankerous ?)
Originally I thought it might be that north is up (straight ahead, forwards), but that can't be true, otherwise France would be north of the Sussex Coast !
When you are in a position to be able to read this sign, the sea is clearly in front of you so why is it shown behind you on the map ?
All places of interest are marked on the map, so if you want to go somewhere that is marked on the left of this map, you in fact have to turn right, to find it !
No wonder some people have problems in knowing their left from right, with signs like these it is of little wonder.
If the map, had been produced with the sea, where it is - in front of you, then left would mean turning left, and right would mean turning right. Or is that too complicated ?
Anyone with any thoughts on this to share ? it just bugs me (as you have probably gathered !) Thanks.
