Shri Krishna had shown "Vishwaroop" on the day of Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi 3138 BCE (5,153 year before A.D.2015) when he was saying "Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta" to Arjuna. Shri Krishna had stopped time by his yogic power so no one in "Kurukshetra" was conscious and able to either see or listen. Only 5 persons had seen "Vishvaroopa" of Shri Krishna and here whole Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta. Arjuna. Hanuman (he was in flag of Arjuna above his chariot). Barbarika (son of Ghatotkach, grand son of Bheema). Sanjay. Shri Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa. But, all Deva/Devata, Yaksha, Gandharva, Kinnara, Kimpurusha, Naga, Garuda, Apsaras seen this Vishvaroopa.?
All people who lived in 7 Upper loka & 7 underworld seen this Vishvaroopa and prayed to this Vishvaroopa. 7 Upper loka are as following. Janoloka. Tapoloka. Maherloka. Dhruvaloka. Swargaloka. Brahmmloka (Satyaloka). Vishnuloka (Vainkuntha). (Dhruvaloka & Vainkuntha were made by Vishnu and rest of all universe made by Brahmma). Underworld Aataal. Vitaal. Rasataal. Talatal. Patal. Suital. Bali (Son of Virochana, grand son of Prahalada, great grand son of Hiranyakashyapa) is king of "Suital" named Underworld (Paataal).
When Shri Krishna gave the teachings of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita, he showed his Vishwaroop to Arjun to convey him that he is the creator of all humans, operator and also the destructor. Hence, you should not worry about killing your relatives and do your karma. Sanjay also saw this from his divine vision. When Karna was at his deathbed, krishna came to test him in disguise of a Brahmin. Karna gave him his golden tooth by breaking it with a stone. Also to clean the saliva on it, he generated a stream of water from the land by piercing it with his arrows. All this he did while suffering tremendous pain. Krishna was highly impressed by this and told him you are the best amongst the pandavas. After this he showed him his Vishwaroop.
Vishwaroop means the one showing all the Gods, Virat roop means the one which is huge. Virat roop was shown by Shri Krishna while he went to settle the conflict between the two parties but Duryodhan ordered his soldiers to kill Shri Krishna. Lord Krishna showed his Vishwaroopa for the first time in the Kurusabha and this is much prior to when the Garuda-bannered god showed the same to Arjuna while delivering the divine knowledge of Shrimad Bhagawad Gita to the son of Indra in the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
The son of Vasudeva went to the assembly hall of Hastinapur from the Pandava side to negotiate peace with the Kauravas and to bring about an end to all the enmity and injustice meted out to the Pandava brothers. Duryodhana was angered by Lord Krishna's proposal of peace which could have otherwise brought an end to the rising hostility the outcome of which meant Kurukshetra war. The son of Dhritarashtra wished to seize and imprison Lord Krishna in the assembly hall itself through the Kourav henchmen but the son of Vasudeva revealed his supreme opulence in the form of god-hood by displaying his Virat-roop i.e. universal form and thereby confounding all those who were in the assembly hall with fear.
After Vidura had said this, Kesava, that slayer of hostile divisions, endued with great energy, addressed Dhritarashtra's son, Duryodhana, and said, 'From delusion, O Suyodhana, thou regardest me to be alone, and it is for this, O thou of little understanding, that thou seekest to make me a captive after vanquishing me by violence. Here, however, are all the Pandavas and all the Vrishnis and Andhakas. Here are all the Adityas, the Rudras, and the Vasus, with all the great Rishis.' Saying this Kesava, that slayer of hostile heroes burst out into a loud laughter. And as the high-souled Sauri laughed, from his body, that resembled a blazing fire, issued myriads of gods, each of lightning effulgence, and not bigger than the thumb. And on his forehead appeared Brahman, and on his breast Rudra.?
And on his arms appeared the regents of the world, and from his mouth issued Agni, the Adityas, the Sadhyas, the Vasus, the Aswins, the Marutas, with Indra, and the Viswedevas. And myriads of Yakshas, and the Gandharvas, and Rakshasas also, of the same measure and form, issued thence. And from his two arms issued Sankarshana and Dhananjaya. And Arjuna stood on his right, bow in hand, and Rama stood on his left, armed with the plough. And behind him stood Bhima, and Yudhishthira, and the two sons of Madri, and before him were all the Andhakas and the Vrishnis with Pradyumna and other chiefs bearing mighty weapons upraised.?
And on his diverse arms were seen the conch, the discus, the mace, the bow called Saranga, the plough, the javelin, the Nandaka, and every other weapon, all shining with effulgence, and upraised for striking. And from his eyes and nose and ears and every part of his body, issued fierce sparks of fire mixed with smoke. And from the pores of his body issued sparks of fire like unto the rays of the sun. And beholding that awful form of the high-souled Kesava, all the kings closed their eyes with affrighted hearts, except Drona, and Bhishma, and Vidura, endued with great intelligence, greatly blessed Sanjaya, and the Rishis, possessed of wealth of asceticism, for the divine Janardana gave unto them this divine sight on the occasion.?
And beholding in the (Kuru) court that highly wonderful sight, celestial drums beat (in the sky) and a floral shower fell (upon him). And the whole Earth trembled (at the time) and the oceans were agitated. And, O bull of the Bharata's race, all the denizens of the earth were filled with great wonder. Then that tiger among men, that chastiser of foes, withdrew that divine and highly wonderful, and extremely varied and auspicious form. As per the above narrative Lord Krishna gave divine eyesight to the following ones who visualized the divine opulence of the Garuda-bannered god-head. Drona. Bhishma. Vidura. Sanjaya. All the brahmanas who were present in the Kurusabha.?
Shri Krishna has many different cosmic forms which he shows to different people according to the situation. The various forms and where and to whom he showed them in the Mahabharat is listed below—Yashoda: She was shown a visual of the entire universe inside baby Krishna’s mouth. Then 100 Kings captured by Jarasandh: When Bhim killed Jarasandh with Krishna’s guidance, these 100 kings were set free and shown the divine ‘Chaturbhuj’ (4 armed form) of Shri Krishna. Sage Muchkund: After defeating Kalyavan demon with the help of Sage Muchkund, Shri Krishna showed him ‘Chaturbhuj’ form.

Hastinapur sabha: When on a peace mission from the Pandavs to the Kauravs, Sri Krishna displayed his ‘Virat-swarup’, to frighten and convince the sabha members to accept his peace offer. Arjun and Sanjay charioteer: In the Bhagvad Gita he was shown the complete Vishvarup of Shri Krishna A detailed explanation of the above instances is given below—Yashoda: Yashoda was the adoptive mother of baby Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna’s biological parents were captive in the jail of King Kansa. One day, baby Shri Krishna was sitting on the riverbanks as his mother attended to some task in the river. Bored, the baby Shri Krishna started scooping fistful’s of mud into his mouth. When Yashoda saw him, she was shocked and angry. She took the boy home and started washing his mouth.
She told Shri Krishna to open his mouth so she could wash out the dirt. Krishna refused. Finally, when he opened his mouth, Yashoda saw the entire universe inside. She saw the 9 planets, swirling stars and divine visuals. She was mesmerized. But suddenly, the cosmic vision vanished, and all she remembered was her baby having eaten mud. 100 Kings captured by Jarasandh. Later in life, when Shri Krishna grew older and established the island-kingdom of Dvarka, he was the enemy of a powerful Shiva-devotee king named Jarasandh.
Some time later, Shri Krishna motivated his cousin Yudhisthir to cinduct the Rajasuya yagna. However for it’s success, he would have to conquer all of Bharatvarhsa’s kings including Jarasandh. Shri Krishna, and Yudhisthir’s brothers Bhim and Arjun went to Jarasansh and challenged him. With the guidance of Shri Krishna, Bhim was able to defeat him at a wrestling match, and even kill Jarasandh. Jarasandh had 100 kings in his captivity, which he intended to sacrifice to Shiva in exchange for the boon of invincibility. Shri Krishna ordered the release of these captured kings and showed them his ‘Chaturbhuj’ form, having 4 arms holding a conch shell, mace, lotus, and Sudarshan chakra discus.
Sage Muchukund: Muchukund was a king of the Solar dynasty who helped Lord Indra in defeating the demons in a long battle. Tired, he asked for the boon of resting without being disturbed. Muchukund was given a cave to sleep in and he was blessed to see a vision of God when he awoke. Shri Krishna knew that the only way to defeat an enemy of his named Kalyavan was not by the use of weapons. Krishna fled the battlefield, and lured Kalyavan into Muchukund’s cave.
Kalyavan thought he saw Shri Krishna sleeping inside the cave, when really it was Muchukund. When Kalyavan kicked Muchukund thinking he was Shri Krishna, the king awoke and the power which had collected inside his eyes (because he had them closed for many centuries while he slept) burnt Kalyavan to ashes. Explaining the events and who he was, Shri Krishna thanked Muchukund for killing Kalyavan. Then, as promised by the gods, Shri Krishna showed him his divine form— the ‘Chaturbhuj’.
Hastinapur Sabha: War was almost declared between the Pandav princes and Kaurav princes of Hastinapur due to a long dispute between them. Shri Krishna, was on the side of the Pandavs due to their righteousness. However to avoid the destruction of a war, he decided to go on a peace mission to Hastinapur, to try and convince the evil Kaurav princes to accept a peace offer. However, when Shri Krishna presented his arguments in the Hastinapur sabha, no one was able to convince the evil Duryodhan (eldest Kaurav) to compromise. Finally, Duryodhan planned to capture Shri Krishna as a punishment.
In a final attempt to scare Duryodhan from the path of evil, Krishna revealed his cosmic form— the ‘Virat swarup’ in which he contained within him the entire armies of Dvarka, the Pandavas, the gods, the planets, and other celestial bodies. He had thousands of arms and in them various weapons. Shri Krishna even gave sight to the blind king of Hastinapur so that he may witness this cosmic form as well. However the stubborn Duryodhan called it a magic trick and ended up dying in the war. Arjun, and Sanjay charioteer in Shrimad Bhagwad Gita
This is perhaps the most popular instance. Just before the war between the Pandava’s and Kauravs, the third Pandav Arjun, who was also a great archer and Shri Krishna’s best friend, asked Krishna (who was Arjun’s charioteer) whether this war was ethical or not. Shri Shri Krishna revealed the vedic wisdom and philosophy to Arjun trying to convince him to fight the war for justice. Thus dialogue between the two came to be known as the Bhagavad Gita. This dialogue was also overheard by Sanjay, the charioteer of Hastinapur’s king who was given divine sight in order to narrate the war’s events to his king.?
During this philosophical discourse, Krishna reveals to Arjun his Vishwarup— his ultimate cosmic form. In this, Arjun sees the entire universe, all its people, gods, weapons, elements as a part of Krishna. Krishna has thousands of arms, thousands of heads and his form is both terrifying and beautiful. Arjun gets frightened and asks Krishna to revert to his normal human form. Jay Shri Krishna

2 年Nice post, Kishore. Unfortunately, Duryodhan, Dronachara, and Bhismacharya could not see it. Had they to see it, probably there could have been second thoughts even on the battlefield. That is why Ghandhari cursed Krishna by telling him that he could have stopped this menacing war if he wished.
