Women in the workplace are faced with many challenges, one of my biggest challenges has been navigating the workplace as an introvert.? Being an introvert often presents unique challenges, there is often a misconception that because you are reserved, you are shy, lack social skills or “stuck up”.? That is not true, while I value moments of quiet introspection to generate ideas and solve problems, I also recognize the importance of teamwork and communication in achieving collective goals.?
I am a Secretarial Manager at a law firm, I supervise over 30 staff members, and my work is all about being social. ?From leading team meetings, collaborating with firm leaders, onboarding new hires and giving presentations all social interactions that are a big part of my job.? While speaking up in group meetings can be daunting, I’ve learned that my thoughtful contributions and ability to listen attentively often prove valuable.? I have developed genuine connections with my team by using my listening skills to pay close attention to what is being said in interactions helping to build rapport and meaningful connections.?
Despite the occasional challenge of stepping out of my comfort zone, I’ve discovered that my thoughtful approach helps me make better decisions, makes me a great problem solver, and my ability to listen attentively brings a unique perspective.? Embracing my introversion has empowered me to thrive in my workplace while staying true to myself.
