The whiteleg shrimp blues

I’ve always assumed that whiteleg shrimp look relatively alike, but Calum Johnstone’s new profile of AquaPurna shows that the German startup has been producing vibrant blue vannamei – apparently thanks to the combination of clear water and dark tanks.

The founders – a lawyer and engineer – claim that their outsiders’ perspectives have been beneficial. Whether they can sustain their progress remains to be seen, as their first commercial-scale facility is still under construction. However, if the appearance of their shrimp is anything to go by, they certainly appear to be doing something significantly different. Here's hoping it works.
