The 'White Van' That Never Came For Me!

I must be amongst a handful of journalists and writers living in Sri Lanka extremely critical - to put it mildly - of the Rajapaksa administration who were never threatened or 'White Vanned'.

From 2007 onwards, while living in Sri Lanka I took on the Rajapaksas while they were in power, ruthlessly tore them apart, shred them to pieces and hung them out to dry through my writings.

Many assumed I had the guts to do it because I was domiciled overseas. Wrong!

I was right throughout, living in Sri Lanka and in my home and not in hiding. Many of my loved ones pleaded with me to stop writing but the Taurean in me refused. I was told that my stubbornness will be my death ??.

I was also the first labeled "Sinhala Buddhist" to take on the BBS and Gnanasara in 2013, also tore them apart, shred them to pieces and hung them out to dry, when they first started harassing the Muslims and Christians.

Was I threatened? No!

Then came my book 'Sri Lanka - The Elusive Miracle of Asia'. The local publishers and printers were too terrified to have anything to do with it and I had to get it published in the US.

If my previous writings were ruthless of the Rajapaksas and the Sinhala-Buddhist clergy, my book surpassed them all.

Was I threatened? No!

Was I abducted? No!

I was harassed ONLY by keyboard cowards ??!

This makes me wonder why some of us, critical and controversial journalists and writers were spared and not the others who felt the need to flee the country in "fear of their lives".

Perhaps because a few of us didn't feel the need to "flee for our lives" as we had no defamation cases piling up in courts against us and we also had no need to "flee for our lives" to foreign countries with greener pastures.

Food for thought, isn't it?

Kelle, please Don't Poke the Bear.??
