White Privilege or Racial Privilege; Why it Matters

Sometimes in attempting to create applicable key language and knowledge, we create unintended consequences that fail to meet our own standards in delivery and reception. For example, the word ignorance in context simply means without knowledge. We often avoid it's use because it is perceived to be offensive thus counter productive. In the sensitive world of race relations, one word or phrase could mean the difference in bringing a community together and or pushing it further apart. To build unity I agree its important to understand the overall concept of "White Privilege", however, "Racial Privilege" can accomplish the same task without instantaneously creating division and disengagement. The cooperative discipline of neutrality when incorporated into our language, actions, experiences, and conditioning; helps us better engage others.

The Cooperative Engagement Model can help us evaluate language, actions, experiences, and conditioning to determine projection or direction whether unifying or divisive. Ultimately "White Privilege" can be highly offensive to those who otherwise may be important participants in unity. Unfortunately, divisive language regardless of intent, is not unifying.
