White Bread – a friend or foe?
The White bread has taken over morning meals due to its convenience of preparation and ease of packing. The bread comes from wheat crops and is considered as a healthy breakfast in many homes. Historically, the crop was expensive to grow which resulted in being more desirable food amongst the people. The popularity of bread also increased as it was easy to chew and had longer shelf life.
A good choice for a morning meal! Wheat is a source of carbohydrates, a macronutrient which provides us with energy to do our day’s chores. All the carbohydrates break into glucose which are needed to supply energy to the body.
White Bread(made from wheat) ----> Supply Carbohydrates ----> breaks into Glucose in the body ----> Releases energy to do the chores
There are many varieties of bread in the market available. Multigrain bread, rye bread, brown bread and more. The fibre content in each variety differs and so does the taste and shelf life. The colour of the bread tells a fictional story, in reality the label on the packing with ingredients and percentages of macros actually matter. The key is to calculate the calories as per need before consumption. Is the slice being toasted, grilled or deep fried? Ponder the filling like a double cheese or a boiled egg? Since bread is a good source of carbohydrates, one can add protein rich filling and fibre to make this sandwich a friendlier and healthier option
