Last weekend at Thrissur station, I embarked on a journey that evoked profound reflections on transformation, nostalgia, and progress. Standing on the platform, awaiting the Vande Bharat train to Thiruvananthapuram, I was immersed in a flood of memories that juxtaposed the past with the present, much like the evolving landscapes of our workplace transformations
.The platform, once teeming with life, was more than a mere transit point; it was a theater for human narratives. Families shared tender embraces, soldiers stood with stoic resolve, and friends exchanged heartfelt farewells. It was a space where conversations flowed effortlessly, as if the very essence of the location encouraged us to express our thoughts before parting ways, perhaps indefinitely.
As I reminisced on the platform, my mind wandered to the weighing machine that once stood prominently, almost as a herald of journeys past and adventures yet to come. Its lights, shimmering with possibility, beckoned passersby. Inserting a humble one-rupee coin, we would eagerly watch as the red and white wheel spun, halting at a random horoscope or a film star's image, imprinted on a small cardboard ticket, each one symbolizing a unique voyage awaiting us.
Adjacent to the machine, local vendors peddled their aromatic treats, filling the air with the enticing scent of spices and sweets. Wheeler & Co, the neighboring bookstore, displayed a myriad of books capable of transporting us to distant lands long before the train's departure. These elements served as poignant reminders of simpler times, reminiscent of the traditional structures in our workplace.
However, as I stood there, I couldn't ignore the stark changes that had taken place. The once-thrilling weighing machine had vanished, local delicacies had been replaced by standardized snacks in packets, and Wheeler & Co was no longer a part of the scene.

Nevertheless, amidst these transformations, one thing remained steadfast - the spirit of connection and community. I observed groups of women engrossed in deep conversations about their work and personal lives. Students, brimming with aspirations, discussed their dreams for the future. It was a testament to the inclusive culture we strive to cultivate at UST, where every voice is not only heard but also valued.
While the number of coolies had diminished, the introduction of modern conveniences and efficient services symbolized a future that paralleled our journey towards workplace transformation. It prompted me to reflect on our endeavors, which are aimed at fostering efficiency, inclusivity, and excellence.
As I boarded the train, a wave of nostalgia mingled with a sense of pride for the future. The journey was not just about reaching a destination; it was about embracing change, cherishing memories, and welcoming the future with open arms.
Just as I hold dear the memories of my past train travels, I am grateful to be a part of an organization that is not only shaping the future of work but also making a meaningful impact in the world.

8 个月Kavita Kurup Thrissur! Wow. Love the place. Lived here for 6 months in 1991, that was 33 years back while working in State Bank of Travancore. Even today, memories are fresh in my mind. Just got married and started family life in Thrissur. Used to live near Ayyanthole(?) Civil Lines. Bus to the famous Guruvayur temple is just at our door step. Used to go to Guruvayur at whim. State Bank of Travancore office was next to the Parmekkavu Devasowm temple at Round North(?) While the whole world turns to Thrissur to watch the world famous Thrissur Pooram festvial, we at SBT had the luxury of galary view of Pooram festival from our office windows. Recently in 2024 while on a road trip Chennai-Coimbatore-Guruvayur-Munnar-Chennai, drove by Thrissur and soaked in all our past memories. Can never forget Thrissur. Thats where “I “ became “We” with my spouse joining me, renting a small outhouse of a lovely and hospitable nair family whp treated us like our children.
