The Whispers Got Everyone Up On Their Feet
The Whispers performed at Leviticus often during the 1970s. The twins, Walter and Wallace "Scotty" Scott, backed up by Nicholas Caldwell, Gordy Harmon, and Marcus Hutson, always had show-stopping performances with finely choreographed moves and tight harmony.
CP and Tony, two of my partners in The Best of Friends, booked the Whispers through Dick Griffey of SOLAR Records. Dick, known as the “Kingpin of Soul Promoters," produced top acts such as Stevie Wonder, Shalamar, Deele featuring Baby Face, and others. When the Whispers came out with their huge disco hit “And The Beat Goes On,” it catapulted them to performances at Madison Square Garden. After that, their shows were too big for Leviticus. But Dick always had after-parties for the Whispers at Leviticus.?
You can read about this colorful era in?After Dark: Birth of the Disco Dance Party,?available on Amazon. Check out the Whispers' big disco hit from 1979, “And The Beat Goes On” by clicking on the link below. They don’t make groups like this anymore.
