While you've been looking the other way, this country has developed into a significant investment destination

OK, here's a quiz. Which Asia-Pacific parliamentary democracy of over 8 million people has grown its GDP by an average of 8% per annum* over the past 15 years?

Some clues: it is one of the world's few exporters of liquefied natural gas, one of the largest exporters of sustainably-produced palm oil, and is also a key exporter of coffee, cocoa, and copper. And, according to ANZ Bank, it's on the cusp of 'super cycle' in minerals investment.

More clues? This same country, just two hours' flight from Australia, has a legal system based on British law and has English as the official language of business and government. And, this November, it is hosting the 2018 APEC Summit.

Of course, it's ...

Of course, it's Papua New Guinea and, if you haven't updated your knowledge of this market recently, you now have an excellent opportunity to do so.

On 6 and 7 August this year, at the Sofitel Brisbane Central in Brisbane, Australia, we'll be hosting the 2018 Papua New Guinea Investment Conference.

Over two days, you'll receive a full briefing on the country's economic potential, and hear from a range of businesses who are already in PNG and doing great things. You'll get to meet investors and financiers, and talk to some of the entrepreneurs leading PNG's next wave of development.

We've run investment events on PNG several times before, most recently at the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney in 2017 and, as a content creators, we know how to curate an enjoyable and stimulating program.

Innovation and sustainability will be the conference's themes this year. Climate expert and former Australian of the Year, Professor Tim Flannery, will be our keynote speaker. Tim has a long connection with PNG, and will talk about business opportunities in the low carbon global economy of the future.

Day 2 of the conference will focus exclusively on opportunities in infrastructure, including ports, roads, aviation, telecommunciations and logistics.

As the Governor of PNG's central bank noted recently, 'energy is one big area where we need new investments.' Tourism and agriculture are two other areas where PNG's government is flagging significant investment incentives.
