WHILE WE WAIT...

When I was a child, the world was to me like a mystery puzzle that I had to figure out. From a very tender age my curiosity was a burning flame. I wanted to know. I wanted to do. I wanted to be.
When I left secondary school at sixteen, that curiousity grew. Then, i couldn't and I hadn't figure out yet why I was born, why I was here, the purpose and essence of my being and existence.
I had applied for Jamb severally, but I couldn't get into the University, not because I was a dullard or because I performed poorly in any of the Jamb exams and Post UME, but for reasons unknown (That's a story for another day).
I ended up spending three years of my life waiting for the miracle of getting an admission into the University. However, those three years shaped a lot of my life as a teenager.
While I waited, in the beginning part of those three years, I was quite depressed and sad. I had no direction and no sense of purpose, I was like leaves fallen from the trees and I was been blown by the winds to whatever direction it pleased.
But somewhere in the second year of those three years, my curiousity had grown larger and bigger, this time I wasn't only trying to understand the world but to understand myself and the passion to find myself increased in depth with each passing day.
As the days goes by, my curiousity grew and led me to a point where I literally was hungry and thirsty for knowledge and was ready to suck up every information I could find like a sponge would swallow up every drop of water.
Then i unciounciously formed the habit of picking up books from the shelves and reading. In a couple of days I would have downloaded into me large volumes of books which where mostly related to Personal Development, Business and a variety of other topics and fields.
Those three years, I later discovered was part of the grand plan and master design for my life. In those three years, I not only became an ardent reader, but a passionate writer. Sometimes I would write and write and write from dusk till dawn.
I wrote articles. I wrote poems. I wrote books. God was forming the writer in me. He was building my capacity to write from within. Because of my love for reading and writing, I would save up money and go and get more books to read. From the new knowledge I had gained, my sense of purpose and direction came alive!
One of the books I read then that developed my mindset rapidly was THINK BIG by Ben Carson. The impact of that book on me then can never be forgotten. And another one I read that developed my leadership potential was the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell among others.
Later, I discovered and it dawned on me that sometimes in life we find ourselves in a position or situation where we have to wait. In that season and time, it seems like everyone else is making progress except you.
But listen to me - The period of waiting is not a stamp of failure or a proof that you aren't qualified or able. The period of waiting is also not a sign that you have been forgotten, neglected or abandoned.
Do not allow your period of waiting to make you become despaired, sad and frustrated. Do not allow your period of waiting to be a taste. The days of waiting can become a powerful tool for your advantage.
The days of waiting are days you can use for rapid self development, growth, capacity building and advancement in knowledge and skills. They are days you can use to develop and bring out the best gifts and finest abilities within you.
The days of waiting are a test of your resilience, hunger, passion, drive, patience and perseverance! Harness your finest skills during those days. They are the days that are designed for you to pass through the fire so you can come out as pure gold. They are the days designed to cream your dream and bring out the flavor in your story.
Have you been waiting for something of recent? Perhaps you have been waiting for admission, waiting for a job, waiting for that business to grow, waiting for that major breakeven, waiting for that contract, waiting for that awesome and amazing relationship that you desire and deserve...
In this time and process of waiting, find ways to make your world and your life more meaningful. Waiting may endure for a while but it will surely be for your good. Just make up your mind to utilize that waiting period to bring out the best in you.
Don't give up on your dreams and vision while you wait. That's why I keep telling you to Stay Metal! Because it doesn't matter where you are now. Don't just give in or give up because the best days are yet to come!
I am Dexter King and I want you to Stay Metal!
