There are many considerations when planning your brand shoot to ensure you are creating the right look and feel for your images to reflect your brand values and stories. Location is a key factor as it sets the mood and scene. One step further than this is the timing of your shoot on location. Not only the time of day but time of year.
Here in this article we'll highlight the different elements to consider across the seasons and how they can impact on your images.
SPRING BRAND IMAGES
Spring is the season that signifies a fresh start. The season that is associated with promise and opportunity with lighter and longer days. The one that we emerge from the grey to thrive in the beautiful bright blooms. Where lambs are born and daffodils bring that beautiful splash of yellow.
Are you a business owner who makes a huge impact on your clients by empowering them to make the transformations they need? Someone who guides them to new beginnings, new growth, new levels? This could be the perfect time for your images.
Spring signifies all of these values with beautiful soft light too to compliment your looks.
SUMMER BRAND IMAGES
When you think of Summer it's all about fun, holidays and colour. A vibrant season of brights that brings sunshine, joy and smiles. It's a perfect time for the great outdoors whether it's a beach, park or field of blooms.
The lighting is stronger in this season so you can have more dramatic shots with shadows and greater contrasts and certain parts of the day. All things that add to the playfulness of your images.
You can also have lots of fun with accessories and props whether it's a big floppy sun hat, water bottle or shades.
This season is great for brands which are youthful, fun, vibrant and like to make a splash with colour.
AUTUMN BRAND IMAGES
Having grown up in the Forest of Dean I love this time of year with the beautiful rustic colours and carpet of fallen leaves that crunch beneath your feet. It's a season rich in colour, also associated with abundance, ripening and harvest time.
Autumn is the season of change with the falling leaves from the trees, signifying letting go of the old to make way for the new. For this reason some relate it to courage too, to make decisions to move on from the old and venture into the unknown.
For many it's also a new start with the new term beginning and back to school, back to business. This can often feel like a second new year and all the feelings that come with that.
From a photographic perspective it's a beautiful season with such rich and vibrant colours. The light can be golden too at the beginning or end of the day which can create stunning images.

Similar to Spring, this season is perfect for brands which help people embrace change and create transformations. Also those that are natural and ethical with the rustic feel it has.
WINTER BRAND IMAGES
With those crisp winter mornings and crunchy ground due to the frost, this season is very fresh. It may not be the obvious choice for a shoot for many brands due to the cold connotations; but it can be great to show cosiness and warmth as we wrap up in lots of layers, scarves and bobble hats.
The misty mornings, especially across water, can be very beautiful and reflective so perfect for showing mindfulness and calm. A white carpet of snow or frost being so white can indicate purity and clarity so, good for brands that have those values.
Another point to add is that images taken this time of year will also have stand out as most businesses won't choose to create theirs in winter. So whilst not right for everyone, there is definitely a place for winter brand images.
You can see here the time of year you have your brand shoot can be key to the style of your resulting brand images. In an ideal world, you would cover all the seasons to capture different aspects of your brand and to show your business is all season's too. Ask me about my All Season's Shoot Experience if this sounds good for you.
I would also say don't wait for the 'perfect time' as that never comes!!... and of course indoor images are less seasonal so that is an option to consider.
