Which "Traveller Tribe" do you belong to?

Having worked in the Travel industry as a sales and marketing practitioner for years I have some experience in consumer profiling, and we often used a range of segmentation methods to analyse consumer behaviour including: nationality, spending power, age group, gender and other demographic groups. These segments could also be described as travelling tribes. A recent report from a Global Distribution System company Amadeus suggested 6 major tribes for the future travellers, they are:
- Simplicity Searchers: people that like to outsource their travel planning to save time
- Cultural Purist: use travel to immerse themselves in a different way of life
- Social Capital Seekers: use social/digital media at a maximal level when travelling
- Reward Hunters: seek both physical and mental self-improvement experiences
- Obligation Meeters: have specific criteria obligations eg business travelers
- Ethical Traveler: let environmental, political or other concerns guide their travel
This is an interesting way of classifying customers by using different types of personas which different industries will use to target relevant groups. If you take travel agencies for example, then Simplicity Searchers are definitely likely to be their big target group. Social Media platforms can maximize on all of these groups not just the Social Capital Seekers.
Out of all of these tribes I would class myself as a Reward Hunters and Cultural Purist. How about you?

8 年Hi Coffee, I like these 'segments or categories as far as they go, but feel like all categories, people and their travel plans are going to be a mix, and will actually differ from time to time within the same person. For myself, I would choose Reward hunter and Cultural Purist as the dominant ones - but recognise ethical as of importance to me - not the first criteria though. I would love it if London featured on your travel plans, no matter what category you found yourself in! We can do a pretty good tour of London sites, Brighton 'rocks', and Lewes history. x
