There are a few factors to considering when selecting the right thermal transfer ribbon for your requirements.? Below is a short list of things you should consider:
- Printer Compatibility: Ensure that the ribbon is compatible with your specific printer model. The majority of printers use a ribbon that is either 300m or 450m long but some small desktop, low volume printers take a much smaller roll of 74m or 91m.
- Material: The type of material you're printing on (e.g., paper, synthetic labels, fabric) will influence the type of ribbon you need. Different ribbons are designed for specific materials to ensure optimal print quality and durability.
- Application: Consider the environment in which the printed items will be used. If they will be exposed to harsh conditions, chemicals, or outdoor elements, you might need a ribbon that offers greater resistance and durability.
- Colour: If you need to print basic single colour labels or GHS two colour warning labels, you can use a coloured thermal transfer ribbon.? These can be supplied in all grades including wax, wax resin and resin.
- Width and Length: Choose a ribbon size that fits your printer's specifications and matches the label size you intend to print.? If you select a ribbon that is a lot wider than your label, you might experience ribbon creasing.? Ideally use a ribbon that is around 5 to 10mm wider than your label and carrier.
