Social Media is an exciting conversation with so many business owners. The biggest question I get about social media is which platform I should be on? and, how often should I be posting?
The main thing I tell people is don’t try and be on all the platforms. Find two leading platforms that your audience is on and focus on them.
Here are some expert advice tips regarding social media:
- Define your goals; you need to understand what your plan and strategy are going to be. Beyond wanting new clients and sales, do you want to grow your audience? Do you want them to click more? Do you want them to purchase from you? There are so many questions beyond just wanting sales. That is why you have to learn about your audience and what they want.
- You want to be on all the channels: You want to be on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, etc, give yourself a break. There is so much out there that you are going to get overwhelmed. Pick where your audience is. Find out the age range you want to target, male or female, and their interests.?
- The type of content you want to use: Figure out what to post and how often to post. You will want to post about topics that will reach your audience. We are on social media to connect, educate, and purchase. Start with an engagement post such as asking them what their goals are for the week? Or happy Monday, do you agree with this? Whatever it is, have that call to action where they need to respond. Other examples are blog posts, testimonial user-generated content webinars, and live streams, ebooks, videos. Always have a call to action asking them if they are interested in working with you or giving you their email address to receive something for free.?
What platform would be suitable for your business:?
- Facebook: is by far the largest. It has over two billion active users. The average age range for Facebook is 25-54, which is the sweet age range. Facebook is good for lead generation, and it can be highly targeted to particular audiences.
- Twitter: I think Twitter is dead, sorry Twitter. It is more about breaking announcements, blogs, critical messages. The age range is under 50, and I think that might be a little high. It is tough to build your audience on Twitter.
- Linkedin: This is my current favorite one. Linkedin is typically the choice for the Business to Business, especially if your goal is lead generation. The age range is 30 to 59 and some under 30. It is a beautiful way to connect with different business owners.
- Pinterest: Is almost like an SEO platform. I have a podcast where we go more in-depth about Pinterest. Images are the name of the game when it comes to Pinterest, so it is essential to get our keywords and meta-tags correct to get the best results. Pinterest is great for bloggers, e-commerce, and anybody who is selling online.
- Instagram: I feel like it is more of a younger generation. It is more visual and engaging. The nice thing about Instagram is that you can post a story and then post it to your Facebook page to repurpose the content. The age range is anywhere from 25 to 40, and that is very broad. It is for an audience that wants more visual things.
- Snapchat and TikTok: My professional opinion, I don’t care for either of those. It’s hard to grow and build a following on these platforms unless you already have thousands of followers or are an influencer for a business. These platforms are visual, mainly video, and other platforms don’t like to be linked to other platforms.
- If you want to use video, I recommend that you make your videos and then repurpose them. Videos are popular now and will keep growing into 2022. If you are going to be doing videos, make sure that you have some type of personality that matches your brand.
The number one takeaway today is don’t waste time on posting on platforms that your audience is not on.
