Which Skill Is Best for The Future? (Recent Poll Results)
Learning new skills is the #1 way to grow within your career. Whether you’re a sales executive, CEO, or investor, it doesn’t matter. Everyone must continuously learn to ensure they evolve alongside their industry.?
Because of this, it got me thinking - “Which skill is best for the future.” Though this highly depends on the industry and profession, there are skills that everybody needs no matter what.?
Therefore, I asked my LinkedIn followers that exact question and the poll results suggested the following:?
Poll results?
In a recent poll, I published to my LinkedIn followers, I asked them, “what is the best skill to learn.” The four options were Sales, Marketing, Copywriting, and others.?
After leaving the poll open for a few days, the poll collected the following results:
As you can see, sales won out of the four options mentioned above. Was I surprised? Not really.?
We all know the importance of sales. It doesn’t matter whether you work in IT, construction, or practically any industry; sales can help improve your career.?
Though sales skills are commonly referred to as a transaction between two or more parties that involves exchanging money and products/services, it goes much further than that.?
I like to think of sales skills as negotiations. You need something from someone; it doesn’t matter whether it’s a product, cash, or a favor, and sales skills can help get your selected outcome.?
That brings us back to this point - sales skills are for everyone. Classifying sales skills as successful negotiations make the skill important for all industries, from security to web development.
Why selling skills are important?
Above we established which skill is best for the future, but why have my followers chosen sales? We now know that sales skills can help all industries, not only sales itself. Here’s why:?
1.???Listening?
All good products and services solve issues. So, when you offer a product or service, you’re?attempting to address an issue for your prospective consumer. Great salespeople spend a lot of time listening to their clients to fully grasp their pain spots and concerns. As a result, many excellent salespeople adopt an 80/20 ratio, or 80 percent speaking and 20 percent talking.
However, this doesn’t account for sales only.?Returning to the negotiation statement above, this could refer to getting someone to do something for you. For example, you may ask them a favor, figure out why they can’t assist you, and then solving the problem.
2.???Rejection?
You’ll?face rejection at some point in your life. However, if you have strong sales skills, you’ll?be able to cope with it. Whether you’re making sales calls, asking someone for a favor, or contacting investors, just one or a few individuals will respond.
Rejection is a natural aspect of life. With strong sales abilities, you’ll?learn to brush off the dust, get back up, and attempt again and again. More significantly, it teaches humility, which means that not everything you want to achieve or do in life is something that someone else desires, which is OK.

3.???Letting go?
If you think rejection?is?difficult, wait until you are forced to turn down a sale or opportunity. It occurs, and with solid sales abilities, you’ll quickly learn what to stick with and abandon.
Surprisingly, this occurs frequently in business. Consider this: if you’re?a startup, you want?customers. But what if the client requests something that isn’t within your company’s scope?
Should you wing it and risk providing a bad experience, or do you decline the offer? If you can’t do it, you should abandon it and concentrate on people who need your product or service.
4.???Closing deals?
The final and most important phase is convincing a prospect to accept a transaction, make a purchase, sign a contract (or a favor, etc.). It’s?how salespeople meet their goals and, ultimately, how organizations generate revenue.
You reach the moment where the prospect must choose between cultivating your lead, actively listening, overcoming obstacles, and bargaining. However, sales closing should be a foregone conclusion if you have successfully completed the prior?stages.
Learning to close a deal or favor doesn’t just happen from magic. That’s why it’s recommended to follow a methodology like this:
·???????Assumptive close?
·???????Puppy dog close?
·???????Scale close?
·???????Scarcity close?
·???????Question close?
Whichever you choose will highly depend on the type of person you are and the client. Some work best with certain types of people and, ultimately, how well you know the strategy when closing a deal.
5.???Relationship building?
Simply said, sales abilities are the art of people. To excel in this talent, you must be skilled at establishing genuine relationships with others. Sales or negotiations are rarely a one-and-done procedure.?
You’re?not only creating a relationship when making the sale but also preserving that relationship long after the transaction has been completed. Someone who trusts you, appreciates you, and has a good connection with you will continue to buy or collaborate with you.?
Above are five reasons why selling skills are essential. The skills of sales itself isn’t a single ability; it’s a huge mixture of several skills. Therefore, if you want to know how to get better sales abilities, you need to focus on the best sales skills. This might include active listening, confidence, resilience, developing an entrepreneurial spirit, etc.?
Conclusion?
After reading the above, you should understand which skill is best for the future. According to the poll, I created a few days ago; this is sales. However, it doesn’t mean you should avoid learning other skills.?
As mentioned above, building upon your skillsets in any industry is important to become the best. Though sales are very important, industry-related skills are also. And your sales skills could improve if you become more knowledgeable in your industry.?

2 年Well, you have to first look at what companies are leading the world's direction. And the type of company they are! https://companiesmarketcap.com/ And then you want to think about the future and what type of positions will be sought after. Although sales have been around for decades, I would say having technical skills is #1 Anyone in a relationship or has a job, has already shown they have skills in the sales field! But how large is that field going to be? These are the things that are going to dictate just how much a person can earn. Take a look at the job market and see which jobs are paying the most. I would say before you commit to something, you should have an idea of what direction the future is going. I see technology being the driving force behind it all. But hey, that's just one man's opinion.
