Which is more important, playing the game or winning?
Chess is a game where each player has the same pieces and options, the ultimate winner is the one who makes the right moves allowing him to obtain the opponents pieces and capture their King. Monopoly starts out pretty much the same way where everyone is on equal footing with cash and opportunity, buys land along their journey around the board and then sees who has the most and the end of the game.
What I've found is the real determining factors has to do with your opponents. Some are better strategist, others are just outright schemers. Those who change the rules for whatever reason are often unpredictable, and you will find have an heir of charm and belief that makes you think you're ahead when actually you are not.
Playing to win sounds oh so natural except when you give it your all, only to learn the goal has been moved during intermission. What I've learned is the one who starts with an advantage, is often the dealer. By understanding the feel of the pieces, you are more equipped to know what to move, and when.
