Which memory lets you step fully into your confidence?

Which memory lets you step fully into your confidence?

"When were you at your most confident" is a question I ask a lot.

Of clients, but also of people I meet if we touch upon what I do.

?

Initially, the most common answer is,?I don't know.

That's because most people's first impulse is to scan their recent past for a huge professional accomplishment.?

And if they come up empty, that's that.

Just another sign they are not confident enough.

?

But when I keep at it, the?real?answers I get are often surprising and always amazing.

That's?after?I encourage my conversation partner to think beyond their professional environment and the past few years.

?

Because the story that makes you feel most confident about yourself may well have collected a little dust over the past few decades.

?

My favorite confidence story is one of those (watch or read below).

?

My story is about 7-year-old me ice-skating – for the first time outside of a rink or stadium.

And if you are now wondering if you should have come across my name before as some famous ice skater, the answer is no.

That's not what this is about.?

Because what makes us most confident about ourselves is often not a conventional success story.

?

When I was seven years old and set foot (or skate, to be exact) on a frozen-over river I could feel that this was a special moment, very different from skating around in a circle during public hours at the rink or training the same pirouettes and jumps again and again in my figure-skating group.

?

This felt different. Today I know it was a taste of freedom.

Back then, I didn't think for a moment – I just took off.

As fast as I could have never skated in an enclosed place.

?

And at this moment, I felt on top the world.

The fact that it was a very small world does not make a difference.

It's really a very personal story.?

(I got in a lot of trouble for it too, but it was so worth it!)

?

This feeling of boundless energy, of ease, of joy, of abundant opportunity –

I go right back to 7-year-old badass me behind my closed eyes when I want to tap into my confidence well.

?

I call this my anchor story, and of course it took a while to identify it as the story that makes my flavor of confidence most accessible to me today.

?

So don't worry if it takes you a while to find yours.

But when you have, I'd love to hear it!?

I would be honored if you shared it with me in a message or a comment!

?

And if you want help through this and the following steps of the process to become your most confident self, it's not too late to join my new combo 1-on-1 + group coaching program.?Let's talk and see if it's a good fit for you!

?
