Nature is dressed in joyful and fascinating colours reflecting its beauty. Colours glitter the universe and they are part of life. People use and experience colours everyday with some are not even appreciating them. A picture of many colours proclaims images of many thoughts. In fact, colours have a great story to tell; just think deeply for a while and you will realise it. When you hear or read the word colour, what first comes to your mind? You might recall different colours you remember or see at that moment.
Colours are of great significance in life as our feelings and emotions respond to colours unconsciously. Probably, we are not aware of the deep impact that colours can have on our emotions and minds. Out of the many vibrations reaching the earth, a tiny portion is registered by the optic nerves. Our eyes respond to these particular vibrations with a reaction that is known as colours.
Medical science has proven that different colours have definite and various effects upon our nervous system and they act quite independently of our eyes or minds. It has been suggested that the seven colours correspond to the seven major planets on the universe and are radiating down to the earth at their specific rates of vibration. The perfect combination of the seven colour waves in the bright sunlight gives us a white light. If the sparks are split up by being passed through a glass, they are at once visible as colours.
Colours can affect us profoundly and in ways that you may not have thought of. Colours can affect moods as some colours are uplifting and exciting while others are depressing and draining. We often use terms like, ‘feeling blue’, ‘in a black mood’, ‘green with envy’ or ‘seeing red’, without really thinking of the meaning behind these phrases. Each colour you choose for clothing or decorating a room can reveal much about who you are. Your favourite colour mirrors the kind of emotions and feelings you have! The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you. Blue light, as an example, is used for a calming effect in some mental hospitals. However, other hospitals are now using soft green, blue, peach and sunny yellow colour on walls and even sheets and gowns. These colours seem to help the patients get well quicker.
In fact, researchers and psychologists strived to understand the impact of colours on one’s life and emotions, so they can be used as a way of therapy and enhancing the comfort among people. Over a period of time, humans have been able to identify the different colours and their meanings. Colours are rich in various hidden meanings and symbolisms. When asked about their favourite colour, some people answer immediately while others hesitate.

They turn pink in later years after having eaten a huge amount of shrimp and their body starts absorbing the colour of their favourite type of food!
