WHICH CLOSET ARE YOU HIDING IN?

Are you in the INTELLECTUAL CLOSET?

Hiding out in flowery, generic, “inspirational” language and tropes pulled from the latest best selling books, popular trends, zeitgeist?

You may actually have a few degrees, read & invest most of your time & energy in dense, academic papers, studies, & literature, except you rarely make reference to them or you do your hardest to over simplify any of those teachings, keeping it really surface, even basic & generic.

You fear coming across too “masculine”, too smart, too intense, too beyond anyone’s understanding, instead of being true to your singular nature. (Singular as in unique, rare, exceptional.)

You are overly affected by vanity metrics, whether judging yourself or others based on them, except you also find yourself confused by those who receive high engagement or achievement because their work is undeniably sub par. But you must be missing something, right?

When, in fact, you are a hardcore intellectual who has a high aptitude for complex concepts; a strong critical thinker who can cut through fluffy word salads and basic, superficial discourse or academic speak that conceals a lack of actual understanding & nuance of a topic; a fierce leader & researcher who practices rigor & goes deep to find solutions and approaches that actually lead to groundbreaking discoveries and change.

You might nod in agreement with others, despite knowing that something needs more development, greater detail & nuance, and better, more development, except you fear it might get too long-winded, no one will listen or care, you have to be entertaining & “light” or “fun”, “feminine”, or “sexy” in order to hold anyone’s attention.

You might look to others who appear to have success and model them, while betraying what you know & have to share.

Are you in the CREATIVE CLOSET?

You are highly knowledgeable, educated, and fiercely intelligent. You are the go-to person in many cases.

You keep things focused on the logical and practical, never straying from your expertise, making sure that you know all the answer so you are sure not to make a mistake or get it wrong?

You are often the one people turn to for the “right” answer and learn from your great knowledge, expertise, & experience BUT…..

You have secret yearnings to experiment because you see what is needed to change in your industry or field, especially to advance it, except you’re afraid it might lead to casting you out, risking your hard earned reputation, losing respect while receiving the proverbial side-eye.

You are able to connect seemingly very disparate ideas, concepts, theories, leading to deep and innovative connections which bring entirely new ways of thinking, doing, seeing in your industry & field, except it feels like a huge risk, whether financial or otherwise.

You continue to stick to “the script” of what is “allowed” and agreed upon in your industry because you fear the “regulators” will find a way to challenge you or take you down.

You have strong work, but you know you’re still competing, despite being “on top”.

You feel the pressure, including investing in all the trainings, teachings, and networking as a way to stay ahead, except it’s exhausting.

You’re working against a huge invisible resistance because you know you’re not fully honoring your singular gifts & ideas in the context of Your Singular Work. You know it’s not as superficial as changing your hair, clothes, finger nails, visual branding.

You feel stuck, stagnant, and flat, no matter how much more money you make or how many goals you meet. You know you’re missing the mark.

You imagine new ways of doing things; to illuminate new information, insights, new approaches which would be far more effective and worthwhile, but you talk yourself out of it.

You secretly desire to claim new space of your own. You know you’re bolder than you demonstrate. You feel like “just another” saying, sharing, and delivering the same kind of work & ideas as another way to stay “safe”, while only contributing to an echo chamber.

You secretly imagine yourself sharing and developing entirely new ideas and how, but brush it off as too hard, complicated, “out there”, and impractical. You know it requires something different of you, except it feels like a huge risk..

Are You Hiding in the SPIRITUAL/PHILOSOPHICAL/THINKER CLOSET?

You present yourself as strong, tough, stoic, untouchable, stick to the facts, principles of life, practical talk about the importance of action, strategy, goals, & doing HARD things

Or maybe as a S*x Pot (this goes for both men & women), who shares primarily images of your body (lots of skin), face, or lifestyle for attention & engagement as an unconscious way to avoid and hide from actually developing more profound work which could stand entirely on your ideas, original thoughts, teachings, and is not dependent on your physical appearance or images — (think X, formerly Twitter, could your work survive with you sharing just your ideas and thoughts?).

You struggle to share your singular gifts without explicitly stating them, which is NOT the same as integrating & demonstrating them in the context of Your Singular Work.

You value the abstract and unnameable. You may explore esoteric practices, engage in critical & philosophical studies on topics related to spirituality, politics, consciousness, art, &/or psychology because it’s deeply meaningful to you.

You fear not being able to integrate these aspects into your work in a way that honors their nuance & depth; you don’t want to risk trivializing them, especially with all the spiritual consumerism & over simplified & generalized conversations related to most topics, which have bastardized them. It feels like too much of a task — better just stick to what sells.

You may connect to animals, nature, people in a way that may fall into “6th sense” category and can make you shy to share with others because you believe it might not be understood, ridiculed, ignored, not honored or valued. You have great reverence for beauty, the esoteric, philosophical teachings, poetry, thinkers but you struggle to see yourself that way or how to integrate and give that form through Your Singular Work, so instead, you keep it practical and easy to be understood by the status quo.

Are You Hiding in the WARRIOR CLOSET?

You play nice girl (boy), always sure to think twice what to say and how to say it so you don’t risk offending anyone.

You see things very clearly; what needs to be done & how — and very quickly. You can act fast because you can cut through bullsh*t without even trying. You have incredible emotional steadiness, strength, empathy and awareness, except you also fear hurting others with what you see and know and avoid any risk of confrontation, so you resort to not saying anything, people pleasing, undermining what you know & see.

You’ve experienced highly intense situations, upbringing, professions, circumstances which have sharpened your perception, resiliency, and sight. You have and can take on far more intensity than most people you know & have known and even function best in high intensity environments.

In fact, you probably find yourself nodding off when things become too calm & easeful. You might unconsciously create drama or disruption in your life as a result. Problems keep you on your toes, except they’re also your biggest distraction from seeing what you actually need to develop, represent, and how.

You struggle to speak candidly & authentically. You use lots of exclamation points, “lols” at the end of sentences, lilt every sentence like a question, and smiley faces in your communication so people don’t think you’re too serious or “not positive”, and instead “good energy”.

You might even say things like: what do you think, did that make sense?, you know what I mean? at the end of your sentences frequently, in order to lighten your directness & be more affable and accommodating.

You present yourself as a cuddly, approachable bunny (tee hee), instead of allowing the fierce, don’t-f*ck-with-me lion to lead.

You have incredible drive & intensity but you fear hurting people with your directness & “otherness” because you have before. You’ve even been “casted out”, called a b*tch or a**hole as a result.

You don’t trust others can receive what you have to say, which is why you rely on the “acceptable” & “appropriate” means of presenting yourself.

You have bold ideas & expressions but you wonder if your audience can handle them or where that audience is. You can’t help but feel like people only want the fluffy, tepid, safe, and banal. They aren’t ready for you is often what you secretly believe. They don’t get it. You might get canceled.

But you also know you are becoming increasingly more impotent. You are bored and losing interest because in order for you to stay awake and ALIVE means staying on the edge of new ideas, applying them, getting dirty and even confrontational & challenging with what you see & say, your ideas, and, in some cases, taking risks, so you can actually feel your life, instead of watching it drain out. You desire to speak with directness & brevity without apology or flowering the fundamental truth.

You are highly kinesthetic. You learn through experimenting, doing & experiencing. You like the raw, real, and authentic. Highly active, sensual, sexual, and physical. You get annoyed with the overly cerebral & intellectual IF it lacks application.

As a result of hiding in the closet, you’re not developing & representing Your Singular Work, sharing it in the right context to the right people, and in the way it deserves.

You’re unconsciously hiding.

You may have identified yourself in one or more of these “closets”, and there are more, except it requires much more than an intellectual or analytical understanding or a thought based, conceptual approach.

You sense it. You cannot deny it.

You’re living on the surface.

And this cannot change only through thought, despite the erroneous & PAINFUL things I see repeatedly written, taught, and regurgitated. I sense the hiding in the very people who attempt to convince people that it’s your thoughts alone which determine this.

In order to integrate & honor your singular gifts & TOTALITY, you must meet it comprehensively: mental/cognitive, nervous system, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually & critically.

If you genuinely care about honoring your most profound creativity, developing & representing Your Singular Work, it requires venturing into the exquisite layers of your inner world, including the intrinsic & specific programming & trauma, which we start to uncover & dissolve by working through the lens of each part of your money: income, savings, debt, financial goals, & investments.

Each part of your money represents how & why you unconsciously hide, and it gets specific & operates at multi-levels: brain, mind, body.

Your money connects to everything: safety/security, love, self-image/identity.

Money is also a major reason why people unconsciously deny their deepest desires, pursue only things that promise security & safety, compromise their values & interests, pretend to be a more “acceptable” version of themselves, hide & protect. It’s complex and starts very young.
